My M9 has developed some black broken lines which run across the bottom half centimeter of the screen...

...the screen is still usable in this area but it doesn't look great.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

I had the M9 for a week and these are my impressions.
1. The player looks great, very compact and power button is in odd place as I am very much used to X7II
2. The OS is very simple, it's not fast but much better than X7II
3. The FiiO logo with LED and changing colors by file type is a nice surprise for me, I really liked it
4. I don't use streaming services only use Neutron and you can't install it, so I did not bother much about Apps
5. The volume wheel is much better than that of X7II and very responsive too in comparison
6. The two way Bluetooth is a nice addition for people who want to use streaming services, so you can stream from your phone

I am not a reviewer, it will be very brief.
Finally....the sound...my library is all mixed and I used the tracks that I am most familiar with. it's definitely a step down from X7II but it has it's advantage. It's a little on warmer side but not as warm as X5 3, it looks like stripped down version of X5 3. I don't know if it is an upgrade over X5 3 but I would take M9 over it any day. The soundstage is a touch wider in comparison to X5 3 but not as wide as X7II. It has surprisingly enough power for HD6xx on balanced with boost on, I never went past 100/120.

The sound is a nice change from X7II.... warmer, musical but the voices are little forward for my taste and the treble reminds me of X5 3 not well extended. I always use EQ on my X7II but I didn't touch the EQ on M9 as the default sound is already good enough for me.
For $300 it's a good bang for the buck IMO.

Half term report on the FiiO M9.

So I've had my M9 since October 2018. Along the way I got the FiiO M6 too, which has the most perfect form factor. In terms of hardware the value and build of both is exceptional. In the 'early' days FiiO were very slow at whitelisting suitable apps, but since the release of the M11, to their credit, they have released almost any relevant app for nearly all users of the M9. Nowadays I use the M9 all the time. For various reasons I am home more and the balanced output of the M9 is so very good. I have tried quite a few amplifiers with it and,in honesty, the power and sound quality of the M9 does not really need tampering with. Balanced output on high gain will run virtually all headphones with some spare power left. I always use upgrade cables for my IEMs/Earbuds, mainly the ISN Audio S16 balanced 2.5mm and the ISN Audio C16 single ended 3.5mm. At the moment my favourite IEMs are the TFZ No.3 and the TFZ My Love 3 and my favourite Earbud is the Rose Masya Mk 2 which, with a little treble lifting on the M9, is superb and my daily home use earbud. I find having Android on it has lifted the DAP experience for me. Although many have now migrated to the M11, for me, the M9 fulfills my needs and I listen to it for long periods. Again, for me, having WiFi streaming, APTX-HD and LDAC makes this little DAP one of the best purchases I have ever made. Half term score 90%.

Yeah - you can install Neutron. I had to register the purchase outside the Playstore (it was a bit of a rigmarole), but it works fine.

Oh ok, I just tried copying the apk file and install it but the files was not recognized.

I have issues with Airplay dropping connection after 10-20minutes. I have the "Keep Wifi on during sleep" enabled
Also i have tried to disable sleep and it keeps playing if the screen is ON. If i turn off the screen with the power buton again after 10-20min airplay disconnects.

Actually I didn't bother much as I received M9 as a standby while my X7II was being repaired. There were a couple of apk files (shareit, Neutron, JetAudio, PlayerPro, FiiO music and Onkyo HF) on my SD card, all these files were not recognized except FiiO music version 3.4.3 apk.
So, I thought other apps can't be installed, glad to know we can install Neutron.
I don't have it anymore with me, I sent it back when I received my X7II back.

Does anybody know if it is possible to use an external USB MQA DAC with the Fiio M9 to provide the final unfold? I have a Meridian Explorer II USB dac but cannot get Tidal on the M9 to provide what it needs to do the full unfold. I know the DAC works perfect as I use it in my system connected to a macbook pro. Is it the limitation of the Android system not allowing the bit perfect output from the USB? Or should it work? Thanks in advance...

@FiiO actually I have an issue to connect my phone with my M9 using BT. I don't even talk about Fiio link yet
My M9 simply refuses to connect to any of my phone by BT

It may be a hardware issue with the LCD display. You could contact your seller to see if he could help first. Or send email to support@fiio.com with the receipt attached.
