[FiiO M5] Compact and Versatile Hi-Res Music Player

I am wondering if someone could help me. I just received my M5 and I have a mac. I uploaded some mp3s through the SD slot on my computer. On two albums, songs are showing up as "Unknown artist" but the rest of the album loaded under the correct artist and album name. How could I fix this?

Additionally, I listen to some music in Spanish and it seems that this little device does not like accents. Is there a way to fix this?

This seems to be an issue in the "Category," folder but the accents and the "Unknown artist" issues do not show up if I search the "Browse Files" folder.

This is my first non-iPod DAP so any info would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone tried the M5 with Ibasso DC01? Does it drain battery too fast?

I can confirm that it worked when I tried using both together in the audio shop but I couldn't adjust the volume and it was set to the maximum. (The DC01 doesn't have physical buttons to control volume.)

I am planning to buy DC01. How was the SQ? Is it worth buying it?
I have a dodocool audio jack adaptor (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32870670007.html) and I am quite impressed by the sound quality it makes.

The DC01 is quite competent for its price point. Personally, those people who plan to buy sub $200-300 dap just for the use of balanced 2.5 should consider buying it.

You just told me the M5 can now have balance 2.5mm.

Yeah that sounds like the best way to use the M5, hoping that it can transfer up to 32/384 and do native DSD256 on the DC01.

If it doesn't make the M5 get too hot and drain battery like crazy, everything should be fine.

But right now it is not usable yet as you can't control the volume. I believe this can be fixed soon since it is not related to hardware issue/limitation.

I got my M5 today.

The sound signature is leaning toward dark side. There is emphasis in lows and low-mids (I am not sure) which can make some instruments or songs sound harsh.

For those who are asking for balanced 2.5 output, you can use Ibasso DC01 with it and control volume by the M5 physical buttons. However, do not play DSD files with DC01. The volume is set to maximum and can't be adjusted (with current FW 1.2). My DC01 (and the M5 itself) didn't get hot like it was when paired with other devices. It was just a little warm. Not sure if something went wrong.

Do You have BTR3 to compare sound signature? I really like BTR3 and I wouldn't say it's dark and M5 has almost the same audio chip so there shouldn't be big difference.

I used to have the BTR3 for 3 - 4 months and it got sold like 7 months ago. The sound signature is completely different. The BTR3 is neutral (I would refer it as bright-neutral with good amount of bass and not too recessed mids) while M5 has dark-sound signature. The sound is opposite to airy. The bass and its impact, including instruments in lows, may sound too overwhelming while treble might not be emphasized unlike other FiiO players. Mids on the M5 are recessed but thick.

I would personally guess that it might be hard to find IEMs that pair well with M5, especially IEMs that already have dark or thick sound by nature.

Could you do me a favour and find out how much time M5 lasts with one charge paired with DC01? I still think about purchasing DC01.

Good to know. I almost bought M5 because I thought that it's just BTR3 with DAP. I'm sad now because I don't need another dark DAP (have 2 and don't like them).
