No problem. Hope it works for you. It didn't for me. I tried new FW. Restore factory settings. Everything. I think the screech I heard was the last gasp of the SOC or amplifier, or something.
To continue with a positive outcome, my new one has been rock solid since July.
After the 'little more trying' I mentioned earlier, I found that my M3 is very picky with cards and follows some strange logic about which card to accept. It didn't worked with the earlier mentioned cards, from which Samsung evo one is Class 10 HC something and the Sandisk one is class 4. But it worked fine with an ancient 2GB classless card and a 4GB Sandisk Ultra Class 10 card. Strange, hah? Now, I have to buy a Sandisk Ultra 32GB one and try that before returning. If that card works, then I'm fine and happy.
Hi, dcpmale
It seems strange. Maybe you can try to format the card to FAT32 using this tool in your computer to see whether it helps: https://www.dropbox.com/s/359hnf44wn3udtk/guiformat.exe?dl=0
rather than commenting on this little jewel, I was hoping I could get your input on my dilemma. In short I would like to use this device as a source of music through the AUX input in my car. Here is why:
The car is a 2008 Audi with MMI Concert radio with SD and AUX input. The SD card media interface, due to its age, only seems to accept 2GB SD cards (no SDHC cards). Some people seem have been able to make a 4GB SD card work, but I can't confirm.
As such I am looking for a source of music, where I can store more than the 2GB, yet, not using my phone. I want to keep the device in the middle console compartment (where the AUX in is) and use a 3.5 male to male cable to connect the FIIO to the AUX. In the same area there is also a 12V out, which I could use to provide also power for the unit on long rides.
So my question is: do you think that the FIIO would be capable of providing quality output, that will also transform in to quality music in the car after running it through the 3.5 in to the AUX? Or am I better off trying to use only SD cards?
Price wise I think it will be similar, as if I buy few 2GB cards (in order to have variety of music), it will come to the same amount as a FIIO.
I'm also using it in my car (Audi also ) just fine. However, it's sort of difficult to change folder while driving because you have to stare at the screen the whole time, when you press "back" on the "now playing" screen it just takes you to the root folder, so you have to then navigate through everything to what you want, this won't be an issue if you just play a folder and let it go to the next, etc.. So, your choice would be to make folder-playlists or something like that, also to be noted the screen is almost unreadable in a lighted environment and the buttons are tiny. Sound quality is awesome though, pretty sure you'll like it more than, say, connecting your phone to the car audio system.
I agree that navigation would probably be the toughest part of your use. The characters are absolutely tiny and if there is any direct sunlight, it can wash out. So I would be aware of that. I'm 48 and just started using reading glasses. I have to squint and turn to see what I'm selecting when I don't have reading glasses on .
Also. The output is technically not a "line out" but is a "Headphone out" so you would technically be double amping. But I don't think that will be too much of an issue in a car. I think it would sound very good and you can take a ton of music with you. Just switching songs might be an issue while driving.
However. If you listen to albums, and select from the file directory (not by artist, or album) then you will have folder playthrough until you can safely change songs. Last week I cut the grass and Listened to Helix and it rolled right into Howlin' Rain right into Jim Croce. (He>Ho>Ji).
For your purpose, I strongly recommend that you have a look at the new X1. It has a proper line out, and actually has a dedicated car mode....but also, Fiio makes a bluetooth remote which can attach to the steering wheel which you can then use to pause and skip tracks without having to take your eyes off the road
the new X1 looks like a much better player, I would've bought that one if i waited a bit more, it has all the things the m3 lacks and a bit more with a reasonable increase in price.

Just recently bought a Fiio M3. I have a query, the player says "file not supported" when trying to play a few of my Flac files(24-bit, 192kHz). I know the player doesnt support 192khz, but will the player play the file, although at lower frequency?
