Just received mine, wow, this is quite impressive. This is the Swiss army knife of DAPs and has a fantastic "engaging" sound signature to go along with it. Color me very impressed off of my initial listening so far.

How do you like it compared to the dx240? Do you have amp8 with 240 also?

They both have similar sound signatures in that I find them quite “punchy” with great bass qualities. I’m using the stock amp on the DX240. Outside of that the M17 is definitely much more capable, there’s better separation and dynamics and the staging is great. It isn’t “too large” like how I found the DX300 Max Ti but it has great layering and size in general. I only listened for about an hour but it’s definitely exceeded my expectations so far. Plus, the RGB lightning is cool

Looking forward to seeing how the sound matures.

I’m very happy with the sound. I’m using over-ear headphone mode (highest gain for battery operation), balanced output, and use volume levels between 55 and 95 depending on genre and recording.

Clearly, within two weeks, I would say the M17 can drive the DCA Stealth to a very high sound quality level, particularly, when it used in enhanced audio mode. It even sounds maybe even better with a ifi Ipower Elite, something like a bit faster/clean ultra low frequencies when needed (between 10 and 30 hz). Volume level set between 75 and 100 (depending on the DSD)
On pure battery mode, I can say it already reaches a very convincing sound quality level with some little EQ with wavelet bass boost something like +2.5 at 15hz. (volume level set between 90 and 110 (depending on some DSD)

NOW, I am not stuck anymore to my bulky portable Less Bx2+ amp for the HEDDphone one and DCA Stealth. Which is a huge enjoyment for me, though I still feel with a desktop Monolith THX887 amp, there is still a little margin for the M17 !!! but, it's difficult to evaluate if some placebo effect is to be considered with such combo.

How is M17 with HEDDPhone?

I just tried a short time the M17 with the HEDDphone, these 2 last weeks, as I was using almost every time the DCA Stealth (as I bring it to my office and use it in trains too). It seems to be a nice pairing too, though I didn't try till now such combo (M17+HEDDphone One) with my most demanding DSD as I tried with the Stealth.

As I use the HEDDphone mainly with a 2x6W (at 32Ohm) amp (Monolith THX 887), I think the M17 should be failing sometimes with some DSD, as I really need some EQ with the HEDDphone (not the Stealth) which are lowering by 7db the available power from the amp, so the M17, maybe, won't be able to provide enough juice in those situations to give fast and clear low frequencies kicks.

Just got the m17, rather impressed actually. Build quality and hardware-wise it seems top notch.

Having an issue with the firmware updater, however. I am on 1.0.1 and the unit isn't detecting that it is out of date.

I was under the impression that there is a newer version out?

The FiiO website seems to be down and I can't find 1.0.4 anywhere else.

1.0.1 is the last one.

It will be interesting to see how it compares to my Hugo 2 and SP2000. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up besting both- espeically when ability to drive power-hungry headphones is taken into account.

So far, not having compared it to DAVE side-by-side, the FiiO doesn't produce quite the same almost euphoric response in me versus listening to DAVE+Mscaler.
Having had a brief listen with my Utopias, Obravo Ra 21 C-Cu and Thummim, I am very happy with how they sound out of the m17.

I'm highly interested in a comparison between the M17 and a 3max and/or lotoo LPGT and/or SP2k..
I'm also interested in some experiences with a M17 and Meze Elite...
May be someone out there had the chance to compare one of those DAPs or will do so soon..
