[FiiO M17] Dual ES9038PRO, dual THXAAA-788+, dual power supplies, 9200mAh battery, 2 volume control modes

Stealth is a plannar , and non of them are easy to drive. Some do better with higher voltage and some with lower voltage and higher current. However, they are the hardest to drive for “Dynamic headphones” designs.

Anyways, the “drivability” and the “performances” are subjective terms as it is relying on a subjective performances POV

However, The battery packs can either swing current, or voltage, but not both at the same time. Something will have to give and compromise. Most of the time, players with rated output are being disclosed in the optimized manners in order to have the highest rated output for marketing purposes. Just keep in mind that there are physic laws

I understand and I agree of course..
Just till now, I could only find the Less Bx2+, which is able to move properly (without clipping) the HEDDphone One and the DCA Stealth => but It's something like uncomfortable to carry and use a DAP and a bulky portable amp, with battery life issues..
This M17 should be a good all-in-one device for my situation, though, I guess, it won't offer the best sound quality like many desktop combos can provide.

What modes are enabled in Portable modes without external PSU ?

Certainly people can’t be taking 3W output for DAP mode right ?
I can't be sure without trying it, but from what FiiO has released so far, it looks like we get "Over the ear Headphone" Mode on battery, and "Enhanced Over the ear Headphone" Mode on DC (12v).

FiiO would probably disagree, as they have clearly done everything possible to provide as good as desktop audio fidelity and performance as possible - and shrinking down the functionality into a package size much smaller than the competing desktop combo's :)

with all that said, I am neither impressed or disappointed at FiiO and M17. Since AKM is out for a while , we don’t know until how long, other makers will jump boat onto ESS soon enough. We will be seeing more and more of them

What does the power output translate into If balanced and 14 ohm like my incoming LCD 5?

From the photos it seems that the THX module is built around a TPA6120?
Very old school...
Didn’t I read that it was developed by FiiO and ThX ?

People in China got news and units a couple months ago . This release is probably for global units. Or As Fiio put that, the units released a couple months ago were prototype or test units. They looked the same to me though

I saw videos from some site , someone linked previously that the M17 reached people a couple months ago with unboxing and so on by users. Also Google translated that they were prototypes. The whole situation is a little kinky, but that is fine. Look like FiiO and THX had something going, so I look toward to the users impressions, especially from your PoV

This is one heck of a player! I noticed in the announcement it said it has an analog potentiometer knob, does this work the same way as DX300 MAX?
Yes, M17 has two volume control modes, you can choose to use the knob or the buttons to adjust the volume

You can get 1.5W@32Ω output on DAP mode, about twice of M15.
