Hello Everyone,

I received my M17 today, amazing beast visually,

Did not had time to try it for the moment, but i have a question about the screen protection. It seems that two are already installed, one back and one front.

So, the one that come in the box is a spare one or should i install it already?

Thanks in advance for your answer(s).

Dear friend,

Yes, the protectors have been applied in both the screen and back panel before factory out. And an extra screen protector is coming with the M17 as well.
You could install it for the screen or back panel when the applied protector is broken.

Best regards

The funny thing about the M17 is, I was almost considering suggesting to FiiO that they make a desktop audio tablet with a good amp in it. The M17 pretty much is that!

There has been one firmware upgrade, which seems to have fixed an issue had where if I enabled desktop mode mid-track, the sound would get VERY loud very fast.

A quick list of thoughts:
• The sound quality is excellent, and while it might not have quite the depth and realism of the Chord gear (inevitable, given the limitations of SD converters) it does do an outstanding job, with none of the typical "SD sound" that every other DAP (R2R-based models excepted) seems to have.
• The THX amp is rather like the AAA 789 in that it has that "clear" sound (I don't understand anyone thinking it is warm, unless smooth-and-distortion-free=warm to someone) and the amount of bass is very dependant on the power supply. Using the internal power supply, there is less bass than in desktop mode.
• The fan is ridiculous. It should be something like an almost silent, slow-spinning Noctua or other quiet computer fan.
• It also would have been nice if the stand had a hinge allowing the angle to be changed.
• The cable hole is too small, requiring too much of a bend in some cables, such as coaxial ones, which can deform easily. A longer hole, reaching further down would have been better I reckon.
• I wish that the desktop mode switch wouldn't ask for confirmation each time.
• I wonder if it's possible to add more colors to the top and side LEDs? I was hoping that orange would be an option.

Is the fan really needed? (E.g.streaming)

Hi, Fan not really needed for streaming. Only for Direct DC Overhead Enhanced Mode after an hours use. In addition, the actual fan can be replaced with a silent fan for very little cost.

I'm new to the world of headphones and Dap's but i can tell that the sound is absolutely fantastic paired with my Denon AH-9200.

I don't understand something about "Pure Music Mode", i'm still able to use Tidal with this mode?

@FiiO I tried to link my Synology to Fiio Music in "Pure Audio Mode" (under Multimedia Server) but when i try to login it fails and i think it's because i have a 2-step authentication on the Synology. If that's the issue, is it possible to add this feature so we can keep our "Servers" more safe?

Last thing (not important, just to give some feedback), when i tried to Login to my Synology adding the https port (like https://192.XXX.XX.XXX:XXXX) the error login message was displayed in chinese.

If you need pictures i can do some.

Thanks guys.

Strange, I don't have any issue in Pure Audio Mode when I use my Synology server with Bubbleupnp Server (for WAN access), Syno Media Server or MinimServer 2.1.
I just feel really annoying that there is no possibility to memorize servers to access them quickly.

Thanks for the reply, but you are also using an Authenticator app to log into your Syno? In Fiio Music I don’t have a field where to put the code so i can’t understand how it would be possible to login and bypass this security setting.

I received my demo unit 2 days ago.
Just did some first comparisons with my 3max.
Using the Phoenix in Gain L mode, the voices sound more realistic with the M17. Mids are little bit warmer and more present with the 3max. Bass is more defined with the M17. Overall, the 3max sounded slightly "warmer", the M17 sounded more defined.
Using the DC mode with the Elite is amazing. Extremely natural overall sound with the hybrid pads and a wywires red cable.. the sound was clearer with more details, but not so natural with a aqvox silver cable (which was not burned in). But the M17 in this mode is just impressive.
My question: has anyone plugged a Cayin C9 into the M17. My thought is, that this could be a pretty good match, but I'm not a technical expert and have no idea, how both would match with output stage, etc..
Thanks!

Yes, I've been experimenting with the M17 and C9 combo since I received it a couple of weeks ago. You can read my initial impressions here.

Since then, however, things have changed a little. Basically, my sense is that the C9 works exceptionally well in some cases but less so in others. Compared to the A02 (and to a lesser extent E02) modules on the N6ii, the line-out on the M17 does not feel as refined/clean as on the A02. I can almost hear a little graininess. This means that in many occasions, the M17 on its own tends to sound better (especially with Meze Liric but also Kennerton Rognir and to some extent HD800s). The C9/M17 pairing tends to come in handy with headphones that benefit from tube warmth, like the ZMF VC. But here, too, I would probably say the A02/C9 still has the edge, because my sense is that the C9 is being better implemented on the A02 module. I would be curious to hear more from @FiiO about the line-out implementation on the M17.

I'm still fiddling around with these various combos and seeing where the C9 fits in, but I certainly recommend this pairing if you have already have a C9.
