FiiO M15S Pocket Desktop-Level Player Discussion & Impressions Thread

Dear friend,Thanks for the info, I haven’t checked my thunderbolt port, I’ll check it. But just as I suspected the device does not support OTG adapters to be used in this way, which seems kind of dumb taking into account that the OTG is detected by the M15S and it gets energized and appears under usb connection options.
This and the fact that it does not support UAC 1.0 are making me think about returning it. Both seems to be fixable by firmware but being out for one year and it hasn’t been addressed by Fiio makes me think it never will.
Thanks anyway for the confirmation.
1. Yes, UAC 1.0mode could not be added for M15S. You could consider other products like BTA30Pro instead.
2. I tried the UAC mode and the Desktop mode could be enabled in this mode but the power supply need to be enough:
Best regards

Dear friend,
That's great. We will share this information to other users if they fail to enable Desktop mode in USB DAC mode.
Best regards

Complete mismatch.anyone have one of these that had a cayin n6II? A01? if so thoughts?
Underperformer in its price class vs overperformer in its price class.
The N7 is more comparable but still loses.
Have you considered getting the other Ti/ESS modules? Those are significantly better sounding imo.

DX260 vs M15S side by side comparison
So far my impressions are similar to the dx240 but with refined treble and improved dynamics.
Dynamics still loses to the M15s but it's an improvement over the DX240. Treble is refined with a less harsh edge.
Now for the head to head.
Note weight is thinner on the dx260 vs M15s. M15s hits harder but with the same speed. Only part where it's note weight somewhat hinders it is in really bassy tracks with small detail (some of my j-pop) where the bass could be slightly tighter.
Soundstage is similar to dx240 vs M15s. Clearer but smaller soundstage on the DX260 and larger overall on the M15s.
Microdetail seems to be slightly worse where the DX240 and M15s were comparable... but I can't say for sure without a direct side by side with the DX240. It's perceived as a subtle lack of bite on violin string pulls, like its being smoothed slightly. CS43198 vs ES9038 Pro signature difference maybe.
Both are still pretty close though, I couldn't hear the difference on an Ananda Nano, only on the Annihilator.

I received my M15S now I am very happy with the sound and handling.
But the temperature is really high of the unit. With charging disabled, continued play for hours (Fiio FDX IEM, Volume 50, High Gain), in the leather case, in the stand with fan off the battery temperature rises to around 23°C above ambient. With the fan on it is approx. 7° cooler. Additonal loading the battery increases the temp by approx. 7-8°C.
Li-Ion cells should only be charged up to a temperature of 45°C, and discharged / stored up to max. 55°C, otherwise the lifetime of the cells gets reduced. So listening and charging the battery at the same time without the fan is not possible. With the fan on it is at the limit.
I had a second M15S here with approx. the same behavior.
Can someone else confirm this? I used the apps "Akku" and "Ampere" to check the temps of the battery.
BTW: I compared my old Fiio M11Pro, it runs approx 10°C cooler with a FIIO FD5 IEM and same loudness.

I had the heat issue a while back, it went away after an update (1.0.4 I think)I received my M15S now I am very happy with the sound and handling.

What firmware version are you on? Maybe try backing up then resetting your dap
Thanks for the info, I am on 1.05.
On the other demo unit I had, V1.05 was already installed, and it was reseted when I received it. Same behavior.
But I will try a reset maybe it helps.

I just checked your Flir pictures. Does your unit still measure around 40°C on the display after the firmware update? I have approx. 38°C on the display at 24°C ambient, and the battery runs at approx. 46°C.I had the heat issue a while back, it went away after an update (1.0.4 I think)
