Firstly, if the reason for having DSD512 is to because you want to have a rate more than the DAC internal oversampling rate, here you already have it with DSD256, because AK4499EQ does 128X oversampling rather than 256X:

https://www.akm.com/content/dam/doc...dio-dac/ak4499eq/ak4499eq-en-productbrief.pdf

Second, if they would use an older and slower SoC like many others did (A&K with SP2000 still uses the same SoC they used in SP1000) to support the DSD512, then you would probably be disappointed that they used an older SoC. And for what are you dissapointed? That you cannot use DSD512? And did you for once with M15 try the DSD512 through the USB and then play DSD256 on the player, hear any minuscule of a difference and then got dissapointed? Or just dissapointed of some numbers on the paper?

First let just start with the basics.
Yes, the original reason for wanting to play the DSD512 was simply to see if there was a noticeable difference/improvement over the lower quality rates, that’s it, Not sure why that would not be reasonable to any Half Way Intelligent Human. Isn’t this what we do in the Audiophile Hobby?, we buy whatever we can afford to try and get closer to perfection.

So, to answer your question, No, I have never tried to play the output from the M15 through anything, like most people who like to be really smart and assume you know everything, you have not taking into consideration that maybe, just maybe, there are people that don’t do that, I brought the FiiO X7 Mark Ⅱ and now FiiO M15 as standalone players to enjoy music.

I have only the following gear for enjoying music:

FiiO X7 Mark Ⅱ
FiiO M15
HiFiMan Ananda
Meze Empyrean
Jerry Harvey Audio Roxanne
Ultimate Ears UE-11 Pro

That is my gear, just things I can listen to without the need for that is non portable.

My only disappointment was that when I saw that the M15 was able to play DSD512 (This was during the original announcement), I remembered seeing the music from Native DSD "nativedsd.com 5 TRACKS IN DSD 512 (2019)” and thought I would purchase them to see how good it actually sounded, that was it, nothing more, nothing less.

I’m not sure why this would need to be a debate in a forum unless you are just completely bored with nothing better to do with your time.

Hi,

The leather case does not come with the M15 because not all the user need the leather case. If the extra leather case is added, the price will be higher. But you could still buy one if you need.
Hope you could enjoy the M15.

Best regards

Hello!

I use M3U playlists on my M15 rather than the native playlists. I'm finding that the Fiio Music app can't find tracks that have folder names and track names with diacritical characters in them. For instance, I have a folder for albums by José González, and when Fiio Music tries to access a track in a playlist for one of the albums in that folder, it reports 'File not found' and skips to the next track in the playlist that doesn't have diacritics in the file path.

Is this a known issue for the Fiio Music app? I haven't run into this problem with my Shanling M3s DAP and the same music collection and playlists.

If this is an known issue, could it be fixed in a future release of the software? Thanks much.

Hi,

Did you try to save the playlist in Unicode format (and not ANSI) for checking again?

Best regards

Hi,

If everything goes well, MQA features for 3rd party apps will be supported this month.

Best regards

Hello,

Thanks much for your reply to my query. My M3U playlist files are indeed in Unicode/UTF-8 format. I've also tried formatting my SD card as exFAT, FAT32, and NTFS. The problem exists for all file system formats.

I tried out a couple other apps, to see if they have the same problem. foobar2000 has the same problem. The error messages from this app indicate that it is trying to interpret the diacritic characters as two one-byte ANSI characters...the name "José González" in the file paths is being shown as "José González" in the error message. I'm guessing this is the same problem that the Fiio Music app is having. Specifically, the UTF-8 character á with HEX two-byte code representation of C3 A9 is being interpreted by Fiio Music as the the ANSI characters à and © with ANSI HEX byte codes of C3 and A9, respectively.

I also tried using VLC Player. It was able to play the tracks in the above playlist with no problem. So this does seem to indicate that Fiio Music (and foobar2000) are not correctly interpreting the UTF-8 characters in the playlist M3U file.

But if you still think this is a problem with my playlist format, given the above, let me know what I can do to fix it.

Let me know if I can provide you any other information.

P.S. I just remembered from past experience that some apps require a byte-order marker (BOM) at the beginning of files to indicate that they contain Unicode characters. Maybe that's the case here? I'll try adding a UTF-8 BOM to the beginning of the playlist and see what happens.

I have confirmed that Fiio Music requires the BOM at the beginning of the M3U file to correctly interpret UTF-8 diacritic characters. Using a HEX editor to add the BOM to my playlist makes it work in Fiio Music.

According to what I'm reading, the BOM is optional and can actually cause problems for some applications. Could you update Fiio Music such that it doesn't require the BOM?

Hi,

Would you mind sending the m3u playlist to support@fiio.com. And we will try to check for you.

Hi,

I have a feature suggestion for the M15 that would be great for my use-case. I like to disable charging and keep the M15 plugged into a power source with the screen on while using it at my computer. By disabling charging, I feel that I'm protecting the battery from charging up to 100% and staying there. But the longest screen timeout is 30 minutes. I'd like the option to have the screen stay on indefinitely while plugged into a power source. I enabled the Android Developer's options, which has the "Stay awake" option, but it isn't working. I'm guessing that's because Android is aware that I've disabled charging. Could you allow this option to be honored, even when charging is disabled, as long as the M15 is plugged into a power source?

Thanks much!
