I'm about to put my order in for an M15. What cases are recommended for it? I've seen two leather options (First and Second) and a rubbery-condom looking thing. I'm leaning toward the one with the heat-sinks in the back, but wanted to know if I was missing out on an option.

Hello
The first is the best, really good quality, but the price seems to be very high here.
I've paid 69€ in France for this one.

Many websites will stop working on older Android versions in 2021
Let's Encrypt will stop signing new SSL certificates with DST Root X1
https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/...op-working-on-older-android-versions-in-2021/

Let's Encrypt makes certs for almost 30% of web domains! RC4/3DES/TLS 1.0 are still used! Certs for hundreds of years! Analyzing hundreds of millions of SSL handshakes

The M15 on 1.0.3 is running Android 7.0, and the support is stopping for devices running Android prior to Android 7.1.1:

@FiiO - Does FiiO have a plan for upgrading our devices to Android 7.1.1 to support these changes coming in a few months?

This issue can start as early as January 11, 2021 even though the support completely stops in September 2021.

Any thoughts or comments on what FiiO needs to do?

Wow. I was literally a minute away from putting in an order. I'll hold off until Fiio says something. Not about to drop $1300 for a DAP that might lose streaming functionality.

It's just certificates for some web site. If u use firefox for browsing no problem.

Wouldn't you be able to fix this by installing and trusting an updated cert?

For web browsing, this is true. But if any of our applications (Tidal, UAPP, etc.) decide to end support for the certificate, then we could be out of luck. I'm not saying this will happen, but the possibility makes me hesitant to make a purchase.

I bought the first one you listed and really like it. I got mine from https://hifigo.com/. Check it out, since the price is much better than Amazon's.

It is indeed the potential downside of Android based players - I mean you still have a player, but yea, the streaming capability is definitely a massively important decision element.

The fact is, the best streaming device is your phone. But of course to make that work for an audiophile things can get bulky very quickly. So you have to balance priorities. I have an M11, so lets see how long it 'lasts' before Android issues. If not long enough, my next DAP will not be a streamer.

I'll continue to monitor portable amps/dacs. Things like the S1 are pretty darn good and will likely get better, that is probably the future in conjunction with your phone for people who need to stream.

That is an interesting point of view, but I can not agree.

The FiiO devices that are an Android device as well as a Music Player need to keep all of the Android functions up to date as they are a critical part of the value of the device.

FiiO and other DAP makers agree as they make great efforts to provide up to date current Google Play support of the Android eco-system so their customers can have the benefits of an on the go Android device along with the Music Player functionality focus in hardware.

I have my M15 set up with the same Android apps that I use daily on my phone so that I can leave my phone at home when I don't need it - which is more and more often - I make few phone calls these days. The internet connectivity for apps is all I need most of the time.

@FiiO - I depend on the M15 and my other Android devices for full internet functionality, and FiiO needs to keep all of those Android internet functions up to date and current with software updates for their Android based devices.
I’ve been using Fiio devices for years. I don’t think they know or even care about that issue. Support for their devices has been lackluster. All they will do is try and sell you some new player that will have new updated Android. You don’t buy these players for down the line support.

@FiiO is very responsive here, but it may take a while to query the engineers to verify what their plan of action is, what it will affect and I have confidence FiiO will have a response as the M15 is still an actively sold device - at least through this year and January when the problems might begin.

I do hope FiiO eventually bumps up the M15 / M11's to 7.1.1, but FiiO might only have time to patch what is specifically needed for network support going forward - in other words the minimum necessary to keep us running right now.

That is unless FiiO is already ahead of this and planned out long before to upgrade to 7.1.1. That is why I am asking FiiO what their plan is to solve this before it arrives.

If you are buying from a place with a 30 day return policy (without restocking fees, sometimes 10%-15%) it might still be worth ordering before FiiO M15 inventory gets spotty as it can during the Holiday buying surges.

The M15 is awesome, but we do need to know it's going to keep working for everything we bought it to do :)

I'm setting up my M15 and I'm trying to get UAPP to work. Whenever I try to log into Tidal, it tells me that there was an Error logging into Tidal. I am definitely using the correct credentials.

Edit: Somehow fixed by rebooting the device

Dear user,

Hi, since our suppliers RK and Samsung no longer provide new SDKs for higher version systems, we cannot complete the system version upgrade alone.
As far as we know, the normal music playback will not be affected.
We will continue to pay attention to this issue, thank you!

Best regards
