Regarding the two SD card slots: https://fiio.com/newsinfo/203616.html

So I take for one card brand (Lexar) we are getting a speed reduction? "It will not affect any functionality, but if you're using a single micro SD card it is suggested that you insert it in the second slot for optimal performance. We are considering the possibility of removing the dual micro SD card slot design in future batches of the M11."

I hope if you remove the second slot it comes as a big anouncement or even maybe a model change, ie, M11b. One of the selling points of the M11 is the double sd card storage...
Remember. Many Lexar sd cards making trouble in different devices (read the reviews about trouble / performance issues etc.) - it's not FiiO related or "2nd card slot related". I hope FiiO does not remove the second slot due to bad Lexar products!

@FiiO - again, seconding this. Currently working perfectly in my M11 with SANDisk cards. In the same way that I would only buy a smart phone which has an earphone socket, I would only buy a DAP which has two SD card slots.
If you want to blame anyone, blame yourselves for spoiling me with dual slots on the X5 and X5iii.
In my experience, you have solved the dual card issue in the M11, please don't abandon this approach in future DAPs.
If the issue is with a specific card brand, just slap a warning on the box that customers should not use your hardware with that brand's cards.

Seriously, I believe many people are grateful to you for continuing to provide space for two SD cards. And your current iteration is flawless from a user perspective.

In short, FiiO will remove the dual micro SD card slots design on future high-end music players with considerations as follows:

1. Most of the SoCs support only one single external memory expansion. If dual micro SD card slots are provided, the other one should be expanded via a voltage level conversation chip, whose compatibility and speed would be inferior to the original supported one.

2. High-end music players are more likely to come with complicated circuit and the encapsulated high quality crystal oscillators DAC requires larger space which may result in no extra space for dual card slots.

3. With more and more large capacity micro SD cards become available on the market at reasonable prices, the market demands are decreasing for dual micro SD card slots on the music player.

4. Meanwhile, we are also considering the possibility of making the built-in flash memory on future high-end music players to 64GB or even 128GB to meet the needs of the customers.

I use high quality IEMs and I could tell the difference straight away (also have a V30). Definitely worth you auditioning.
That said....if you're a heavy Tidal user, you might be right about it not being worth the switch. I wouldn't know.

Not in a rush for a Chinese import with possible duty/VAT fees so I've just pre-ordered with AMP3 in UK. Only £395 with 12% discount code 12EXCL250 (I paid ~ £350 for my X5III so a good price I'd say). https://www.advancedmp3players.co.u...h_Resolution_Lossless_Music_Player.15340.html

I can wait until end of May to get it.

James, is there any way that future models could have a built-in slot just to carry (not play) a second (or even third) microSD card? At least if the additional cards can be carried in the unit, we won't have to carry an additional item just to keep a couple of tiny cards safe.

I just got a reply from the official Hungarian Fiio reseller and luckily they will have the M11 on sale at the same time it goes on sale internationally in May.

I currently have a Pioneer XDP-300r with a broken 2.5mm balanced connector (without any support or means to have it repaired), so the M11 with its features and price is just too big of a temptation to miss out on.
Quite curious how it will compare sound wise because I am in love with all the detail I get out of the 300r (or should I say i WAS while I could still use the balanced out...) paired with a Brainwavz b400.

For those with the M11. I just got a notification of a new firmware upgrade this morning that said it was supposed to help with the speed of slot 1 sd cards.

sorry not, there are limited space and I think it is easy to find a way to carry more TF cards.

To help limit the speed and provide more compatibility. Slot 2 should be the one you´re using if you only use one.

I have 2 cards in my M11 but my main one is in slot 2 and isn't full yet. I did just read the thread they had on 1.0.3. I have to say it is a bit disappointing that they are changing this because of Lexar. It is one brand of card and seems to be the only brand that has issues. So not sure if FiiO and Lexar have some sort of relationship or something. But why make a decision based on issues with just one brand. I always use Sandisk or Samsung cards. Currently I have 2 Samsung Evo Select 256gb cards and they are working fine. Eventually when prices drop I will just go to a single 1tb card and not worry about it but they won't be relatively affordable for at least 6 months.
