Will the battery be constantly charging when connected to a pc?

I would be using it 80% as a desktop amplifier for Iems, so it might be an issue.

Hi all,

I have a question maybe someone can answer.
I use a Denon ah-d5200, a PSB m4u and KZ pr1 to listen to. I use a Fiio Q3 mqa to power them. The PSB goes very loud so I am happy with that. I use a balanced 4.4 mm cable for the Denon but they sound not as loud as the psb. The kz pr1, to my suprise, have the lowest volume. I believe the Q3 has 160mW for the 3.5 mm port and 320mW for the balanced port. I see that the Fiio Q11 has a lot more power, 650 mW, that is twice the power. I read in this thread that the Q11 is a step downwards compared to the Q3. If I buy a Q11 so my headphones/earbud go a lot louder what will I “loose” compared to the Q3. I don’t get it.
Excuse me for my English but I am Dutch so English is not my first language 😊
Kind regards, Pascal

*edit*20 march* added Dali io-4 and Beyer Dynamics DT 900 Pro X to my collection. Returned them both the same day! Both were no match for my Denon ah-d5200 (with new balanced cable) and PSB M4U. They reminded me of the also crappie Grado SR325X. Also ordered QOA Vesper out of curiosity 😊

Hi, me again…
So I emailed Fiio and this was their answer:

Thank you for reaching out to FiiO!
Thanks for your interest in our product.
According to the parameter, the output power of Q11 is higher than Q3 MQA:
https://www.fiio.com/q11_parameters
But theoretically, the chips of Q3 is better than Q11.
And due to individual preferences, you could read the professional reviews and comparisons, as well as try out by yourself.
If you have any questions or concerns please let us know and we would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
FiiO Customer Service Lin Lin
The Ticket ID is 2507, please include it in all your email.

Kind regards,

What is the coxial ouput typically used for? Would it be connecting to an external DAC?
Dear friend,

You could connect to the DAC which support coaxial in via the coaxial output port of the Q11.

Best regards

Dear friend,

No. The battery will not be charged when it is fully charged when connected to the PC.
You would need to reconnect the Q11 again in order to get it charged.

Best regards

Ps. So what I can see when I look at the Q11 and Q3 parameters I only get a power boost when using the 4.4 mm output. Wat makes me wonder… on Amazon I see 3.5 mm to 4.4 mm converters https://www.amazon.nl/gp/aw/d/B075165H2M/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A1Z9JDUNXKNJVN&psc=1 , will this boost the volume of my earbuds when I connect them like that?

Owh.. ok, did some research, I read the comments. It is not able to connect a unbalanced 3.5 headphone to a 4.4 mm balanced input. To bad.

Dear friend,

Yes, it is not recommended to connect a unbalanced 3.5 headphone to a 4.4 mm balanced input or the output sound may not work correctly. You could check this link for more information:

Yes. You select spdif out mode in the fiio control app. Then the device acts as a usb to spdif converter. A convenient way to to connect a phone or iPad etc to a coax input of another device. For example when I’m not listening to headphones I’m using q11 to connect my pixel 7 or iPad Air to the dac in my hifi system which is a convenient way of getting lossless Apple Music to my older amp

I have the Q3 MQA but some of my headphones/earbuds need more power.
I use a Denon ah-d5200 and Meze 99 Neo with balanced cables and a PSB m4u, KZ PR1, KZ ZEX Pro and QOA Vesper with 3.5 mm. Only the PSB and ZEX Pro get enough juice from the Q3 and the rest need more. Should I buy the Q11, especially for using the 4.4mm because that gives 650mW ? more than the double of the Q3!
Using the 3.5 mm port it only gives 160 mW
Feels like I wasted 160,- euro on the Q3 because with the Q11 I will get better results for half the price. Or am I missing something? Please share your thoughts If I should buy the Q11…..

*OMG only now I realize I posted same question 2 times in this thread. Only noticed it after I already posted it. I get so confused…*

After Sunday's KA5 article, it's now time to look at the FiiO Q11 on Headfonia. An article by @nanotechnos

Ok. I bought the Q11. It arrived today. It sounds less loud than the Q3 MQA!!! I tested with a Denon ah-d5200 and Meze 99 Neo both with a 4.4 mm balanced cable. I used a iPad pro 12.9 2021 with usb-c and a iPhone 12 Pro Max wit lightning and I can confirm the Q11 goes less loud. 360mW for the Q3 and 650mW for the Q11. What is going on?
