Shortly after I returned the FD3 Pro I began to feel I didn't give them a fair shake. After trying and not being satisfied with the iBasso IT00 I decided to give the FD3 Pro another chance, because other than slightly boomy mid bass at times I liked everything about them better than the Moondrop Aria or the IT00.

I ordered another pair and after a week of use (6-8 hrs each day) I'm glad I did. Upon receiving them I immediately switched to the black wide bore sound tubes before listening because to my ears they open up the soundstage considerably over the red narrow bore tubes, and not once have I thought they sounded overly bright. And while I have occasionally noticed a bit of boominess it is much less than the first pair I tried when playing the same test tracks, and I also have noticed that male speaking voices on TV aren't overly warm and chesty as they were on the first set. I wouldn't think there would be that much difference between samples, but who knows? All I know is I am very happy with the FD3 Pro now.

Here's my little budget bedroom setup where I use them most. I use them for listening to music and TV/movie watching in the evening. For the $$ invested I'm very satisfied.

LG BP550 coaxial out/optical out from Samsung 7100 Series 4K TV>Schiit Modi 3>Topping L30>FiiO FD3 Pro.

Oh I did read yours and all other reviews before my initial purchase of them. And after the experience with the first pair that is why I said I immediately installed the black sound tubes when the second pair arrived. But for whatever reason the first pair somehow exhibited more mid bass boominesss even with the black tubes than the new pair does.

With a heavy heart I ended up returning them because unfortunately something about their size/shape didn't fit my ear anatomy well. After about 90 minutes both of my ear canals would get sore in the same spot. I tried the various tips and nothing helped. I assume it had something to do with the angle of the sound tubes.

It's a shame because in my limited experience with IEMs (7 or 8 pair) they were by far the best I've ever heard. With my musical tastes (primarily classic rock/blues/americana/folk/vocal jazz) everything sounded great with them. The biggest differences between the FH5S and FD3 Pro to my ears was the bass of the FH5S has much more texture and definition, the mids are more present, the treble is airier and more detailed, and the soundstage is grander. Is the FH5S better than the FD3 Pro in every way? Certainly, but they better be since they cost more than twice as much (or 3 times as much for the non-pro version). That said, I'm more pleased with the FD3 with each passing day. Only on rare occasions do I find the mid bass to be boomy and that's the only minor gripe I have with them.

Given the early reviews of the FD7 I'll likely be ordering a set at some point but for financial reasons it'll be awhile. The size/shape of the FD3/5/7 fits my ears extremely well and they're comfortable for me to wear all night.

I absolutely like that they're much lighter, and have bassy sound tube of the same diameter that the wide inner diameter tube, which means I can try my favourite (at the moment) Audiosense S400 eartips. So I did, and I think, if it's not my perfect sound, then it's the closest to it. I like when there's a lot of bass, but yet I like details, vocals, guitar distortion, and FD3 gives me perfect balance between my preferences. Comparing them to FD5 I should say that I can't hear any difference in technicity, the only bad thing I hear is that FD3 is not as airy as FD5, which is not a big deal for me. FD3 have more bass, less treble, and I'm tired of FD5's treble, so it's good for me too. So, there's my opinion on these awesome IEMs. Hope it'll be useful for someone.
