The FH9 sounds like how you would want music to sound like, big, dynamic and hyper adrenal.

It's not only very well said, but that's exactly what it is.

I like a lot the Penon Serial...

(very) Warm, very musical... pure pleasure.

Like an old and vintage tube amp : the "rounded and colored" type, but holy crap ! Pleasure...

Technically, I found the Fh9 better, no doubt about that, but the Serial... They are juste soulfull at an incredible level.

About the other Penon IEM's : never heard them, so I don't know

You should thinking about Aür and Sound Rhyme too.

But never heard them, so I don't know too...

Thanks, this helps... I am considering Volt or Serial ... later on would love to try / get the Legends. That Serial's 3DD setup is very tempting indeed plus thier price too.
Once I get them i will make some detailed comparison with FH9. Cant wait.

These are two different approaches. Which are not really comparable.
It's like fine wines or great whiskies : different tastes, styles...

Agree... thats why I like different types / setups. One day vintage, speaker like relaxed sound and other day pure analytical techno feel like only the FH9 can produce.

FH9 is fantastic with all kinds of genres I throw at them including classical music, jazz, soundtracks even great with movies and games. But once I feed it with some
good quality complex electronic sound / music then its OMG feeling. That bass, speed and details... just pure pleasure to my ears.

"Details" are very important :

1/ tips selection (by far the most important thing). My endgame choice : https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/CWU-GECL-Eartips-Isolating-Prevent-Enhanced/dp/B0991RL358. Maximum phonic isolation and maximum precision, definition, resolution, dynamics, etc. without sacrificing nothing at all. No coloration. Maximum CLARITY !
2/ over filtering of the shell vents, 550 value (300 plus 250, 3mm diameter) : https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fii...ced-armature-iem.960580/page-51#post-17389532. This is my tuning contribution. The bottom end became epic (every criteria) but totally under control !!!! Bass and RUMBLE unleashed !
3/ impregnate these tiny paper filters listed above with a (black because it's pretty ) indelible marker : https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fii...ced-armature-iem.960580/page-51#post-17402038. It tighten the (monstrous) bass : maximum impact, precision, articulation.
4/ green filters on the canula : treble unleashed !

The secret is the implementation in order to exploit the maximum potential of the product.

These five points... : TOTL TIME.

I tried a lot of combinations, my preferred one is SpinFit W1 tips with balanced black filter. I tried the green filter a lot of times, but it does something strange with the sound which I cannot really explain in words, makes it sound a bit unnatural. I think FH9 was really meant to be used with the balanced filters, but that is just my experience with my particular set of ears with low listening levels (60-65 DB), others on this forum really like the green filter.

My silver FH9 is up for sale. I really wanted black but they sent silver instead. It’s a very very capable set but it doesn’t always make my weekly top7. Includes one of the nicest stock cable I’ve seen in a while as well.
