Well guys it happened - my 20-month old F9 Pro died (well at least the right earpiece did). Of course I tried several cables to make sure it's not a cable issue.

It's weird because it came out of nowhere after babying them in their hardcase and mostly using the stock cable all this time. Frankly I expected a little more life out of a $130 product. This also makes me nervous about my FH5 set...The whole reason we buy IEMs with detachable cables is that the shells should outlast the cable. Now I have 2 good cables and one dead shell...Quite disappointing...
Dear friend,

Sorry to hear about that. You could contact your seller to see if they could help or contact us via support@fiio.com.

Best regards

I have been listening to F9 Pro paired to Onkyo DP-X1 and Sony N3 BP paired to ZX300 for a while on long flights. I must say that F9 Pro holds up pretty well. While N3 has better bass but F9 is crisp at treble. I dont find it fatiguing but it is great with vocals.

The right of my F9 Pros gave out last night. I suspect the cable has gone on that side but I have been unable to separate either the left or right-hand side earpiece from the cable itself to test it out.

Not a bad 18-month stint really.

It might be worth spending ~$6 for a few "terminal removal keys" like these to try and separate the cable from the housing. If it is the cable, it's cheaper than buying a replacement pair.

Product Review Of FiiO Products---From James

Chapter Night: F9

We have finished the product story of 2016. So today we would move to the year of 2017. The pioneer in 2017 was the DD+BA hybrid earphones, F9, released in July.

From the F1/F3/EM3, FiiO formally started the earphone segment. I still remember that earlier we have set up our strategies as follows.

1. Start from the entry-level/low-end products for experience accumulation. First, we need to figure out how this industry works, and introduce us to consumers. If we blindly release high-end products and fail to do that, it would be hard to do it again. However, consumers are more generous to low-end products. This is FiiO's principle all the time, getting it real and moving forward step by step.

2. Earphones made of metal materials are excluded. This is based on our understandings of user experience. Because for metal earphones, one con is that it is too heavy. The other is that it would be too cold in winter, which would put more coldness on the ears. However, the reality and practice told us that we have overly thought about this. The value of HiFi earphones is high yet it would be hard for plastic materials to contribute that.

3. Taking over-the-ear as the main design. This aims at reducing the cable microphonics and making it more comfortable to wear.

Based on our previous practices, plus the violent dynamic earphone market and the current market environment, we took our first step with the DD and BA hybrid earphone as our sword to enter the mid-to-high-end market. This was the background that the F9 was born.

In order to acquire better sound quality, as well as consider audiophiles' preference for metal components, we decided to choose the complicated metal shell from Five Axis Machining Center.

In terms of the driver configuration, the F9 has adopted the relatively popular and mature structure-1 Dynamic Driver and 2 Balanced Armature. Frankly speaking, it was influenced by the hybrid earphones, K3003 from AKG which can be somewhat regarded as the most successful DD and BA Hybrid Earphones even today.

In terms of the style design, the F9 has laid the design foundation for FiiO's future earphones. For the limitation of ergonomics, the main shape of the over-the-ear earphones can be divided into two types. One is similar to a football, whose typical representative was Shur and Weston. The other is the similar male mold which has a higher cost. Therefore, under the circumstance that the shape and material were unable to get a breakthrough, we decided to apply the stereo texture starting from the BTR1 and K1 to the F9. This has achieved a special characteristic for FiiO earphones. The FH5, FH7, FA1, FA5J, FA7, FA9 have all continued the same design language as it.

After being released, the F9 became a hit. It was sort of the masterpiece of FiiO in the HiFi earphone market. Thanks for its excellent sound quality and friendly price, it was popular among audiophiles at home and abroad. I remembered there was a whole year when we were busy with improving the production capacity and final passed yield in order to meet the market needs. Among the F9 series, including the latter F9SE and F9PRO, the F9 is not the best all around. However, from a historical angle, it is our most important earphones. What's more, its derived earphone F9PRO coming a few months later, has still taken space in today's market. From this point, we can see the vigor and power of it.

@FiiO I sent a support email to you today. I recently bought two pairs of the FiiO F9, one for my wife and one for myself.

My wife's pair was fine. My pair came with a 3.5mm cable that was faulty. The microphone did not work and the Right MMCX sleeve fell apart as I was trying to connect it to the earbud itself. I did not use unreasonable force to do this. I was hoping the build quality for the cable would be a better than this...

Now I can see that there are no retailers or options to purchase the improved version "RC-MMCX3S" in the United States, and some of the high quality aftermarket cables, especially the ones from Null Audio seem to be unreasonably priced. I'm quite shocked how expensive some of these cables appear to be, especially since a lot of them cost more than the headphones themselves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FiiO classic hybrid earphones are once again fully upgraded!

#2 BA 1 Dynamic Driver Hybrid Earphones FH3#

The beryllium-plated diaphragm dynamic driver in the FH3 was specifically-chosen, allowing for thunderous yet lightning quick bass, premium dynamics spectrum as well as transient responses. When paired with 2 Knowles balanced armature drivers which were acoustically placing closer to the ear, it helps to reduce unwanted treble reflections that reach one's ears compared to a typical earphone design, ensuring minimal loss of treble detail and thus making for more pleasant listening.

#2 BA 1 Dynamic Driver Hybrid Earphones FH3#

Not just upgraded in configuration, but acoustically, the FH3 made good use of FiiO's patented S.TURBO acoustic technology. The longer and smoother turbine-inspired sound tubes effectively filter unwanted high frequencies, giving deeper and harder-hitting bass performances. In order to achieve more comfortable listening, the FH3 utilizes FiiO's patented balanced pressure relief technology, to balance the air pressure in the front and rear chambers, thus ensuring music dynamics are not distorted and thus making for stress-free listening.

I just ordered these. I take the cable on this is a bit different than the F5, because I had some bad luck with cables on my F5 in the past. Any suggestions on a good usb-c to 3.5mm cable that works with the Pixel line up or MMCX to usb-c? Thanks

Dear user,

Doesn't your headphone have a headphone output port? Maybe you could consider the Bluetooth amp which could be more convenient.

Best regards
