I'm curious if there have been any sound tuning changes to these vs. the Dunu version, or if they are truly just re-branded (they do still say Dunu in a couple places).

Drivers and housing are the same, just different cables. I think Brooko mentioned it in the Headfonia website that they sound almost identical.

My time with them is fast ending, but I've enjoyed them quite a lot. Good balance, bass and OMG that soundstage!
Won't be surprised if I end up picking up one myself.

Any thoughts on how it compares against Hifiman RE400?

Bass: EX1 tight, clean, impactful, good quality, less quantity than basshead. RE400: Good detail, goes deep into subbass, flat, but seriously lacks impact.
Mids: RE400's syrupy rich mids blows EX1 out of the water. But more a personal preference. EX1 mids has thinner notes, good clarity, but does its job quietly.
Treble: EX1 forward, sparkly, very prominent. Borderline sibilant on metal/hard rock tracks. RE400 extended, but very smoothed out. I prefer EX1.
Soundstage: EX1 magnificently triumphs the RE400 in width, depth and height. Soundstage is not RE400's strength.
Overall: EX1 the better all-rounder. RE400 more for mid-centric or downtempo tracks.

Just my 2 cents.
