I emailed FiiO (market@fiio.com.cn) about this on June 26th, but never got a response back.  I'm hoping one of the contributors might be able to help (koff, feiao?)

I have an iPod 4G Classic in an aluminum case for protection.  I'd like to be able to hook the E17 to the iPod via the L9 adapter, and strap them together with the silicone bands to make a less bulky portable audio solution.

Because the E17 is aluminum, it would get really scratched if I put it up against the aluminum case my iPod is in.  I can't really use the sleeve that came with the E17 since I wouldn't be able to get at the controls- that case is really only good for storage/transport.

The E7 had a nice silicone case that protected it, but the E17 didn't come with one, and I don't see them available yet.  Will FiiO be producing them, and how can I get one?

Thanks!

Why not get a plastic or rubber case that fits around the aluminum one?

I would take a plastic/rubber case for the E17, but the aluminum case I've got for the iPod has worked for many years, and I don't see a point to changing it.  The main reason I'd like a custom case is so it is customized for all of the connection points on the top and bottom of the E17.  The fabric case doesn't allow you to use it in the case, since you can't access the ports while it's inside, so it's basically just for transport.

This looks like a good option seeing as there appears to be very little in the way of other solutions. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiio-E17-leather-case-/261251009615?pt=UK_MP3_Players_Accessories_Cases_Covers_Skins&hash=item3cd3c60c4f

The Fiio X1 silicone case fits the E17 almost perfectly. The cases are available on eBay for £4.90.

You will need to punch a new hole for 'headphones', 'aux' & 'digital in' but that is easy enough.

Without doing anything else, the 'on/off', 'volume', and 'menu' buttons plus the screen are all exposed. You probably don't need to get at 'hold' and 'input' but you can do so simply by pulling back the cover a little.

As a new member I'm not allowed to attach pictures but here is a link to a picture of my E17 dressed up in X1's clothes:
