The Fiio E12 has a gain setting of either 0 or 16... Nothing in between, one or the other.

My Audio Technica ATH-W1000X phones have an impedance of 42 ohms.

Should I have the gain switch on my E12 set to 0 or 16?

Start with the lowest gain, then move up if the volume isn't enough.
