Waiting for my BTR17, should arrive later today, or on Friday...

By the way, was the 0.51 firmware released for everyone?
Yep -- that's the version the fiio control app updated mine to straight away

Which device are you connecting with? I can use the microphone via Bluetooth connection with the S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 pro Max. But I couldn't do it on a Windows laptop.
Let me add to my message. While the recording quality is good on the S23 Ultra, it is bad and noisy like recordings from the 1980s on the iPhone 15 pro Max. If there are friends who have iPhone and Android, please test this. If it is something that can be fixed with firmware, please do what is necessary. Because for iPhone users, the BTR17 microphone may be unusable. I made the recordings in a quiet room right now.The situation may be different in a noisy environment.

I have mine in hand for about a week or so. The first day I turned it on the timbre was really metallic sounding, even through my warm car speakers. It sounded completely "off". I decided to let it burn in and it seems to have mellowed out. I am still listening to it and making determinations on how I feel about it, but I CAN say it's much more neutral or cool sounding than the BTR7 which (in comparison) seems on the warm side of neutral. It's also more detailed and has more space and air in the mix. Headphones used so far are the ATH-M40x and Senn 600. I am also using it with my Topping L70 and it works really well but I do notice while that combo is extremely detailed, it's a little "dry" sounding. I was using that combo with my Senn 800.

I'll continue to use it throughout the next couple of weeks and make some more comparisons with the BTR7. HOWEVER, I'm either doing something wrong or I'm deaf, because I am going through the filters and I cannot hear ANY difference between them. Am I supposed to scroll through them to hear them or am I supposed to choose each other individually so it kicks me out to the main menu?

It's hard to hear the difference between the filters. But I did notice that stringed instruments like guitars echoed after the last hit with the mini filter. The higher the pitch, the more noticeable this sound. In other words, to notice the effect of the filter, you need to read it, choose a song accordingly, and focus on the instruments and voices accordingly. I don't know how and in what way it affects the overall listening experience.

I am not sure but I select each one of them individually by pressing the volume button and then exit to the main menu. Then I return back into the filters menu to make sure the one I had selected is active. I also checked after power off and on.

I listened to the words that dry sounding. Oliver Mtukudzi Ndakuavara I listened to the music track called "Sundara" with a balanced cable.

I listened to it by comparing it quickly with Ka15 and K9AKM. In my opinion, Ka15 and K9AKM are also wet sounding dac/amps. Yes, the atmosphere and surround sound in BTR17 creates a feeling of dryness. But in these songs, this is when the atmosphere kicks in. This perception creates an illusion in the sound, as if the wind is blowing on a wet surface covered in cologne and then the cologne evaporates. This sudden formation of atmosphere is not something I can hear in Ka15 and K9AKM, so BTR17 creates the illusion of dryness at the moments when the atmosphere is formed.

You can hear the differences when you slide between them, but it's hard to really hear the differences. As I said, it's necessary to have knowledge about the effect of the filter, choose songs accordingly, and focus on the sounds accordingly.

This illusion of drying disappears with Ldac. Atmosphere and surround fall victim to compression with Ldac and this perception disappears. I like this atmospheric build-up, but I didn't realize how dry it felt until you mentioned it.

The BTR7 is definitely a thicker sounding dac. The BTR17 has a leaner cooler sound which can add that sense of dryness to it. But I'm going to need more time with both side by side to really suss out and make final thoughts.

I agree with you about BTR17. I wouldn't say it's cold and thin on its own, but if we compare it to K9AKM and Ka15 or Fosi Audio DS2 2024, yes it's colder and thinner. But if there are those of us who have used Fosi Audio SK02, BTR17 is not as cold and thin as it.

And let me add, this coldness and subtlety is almost lost due to compression with Ldac. But it is very difficult to notice this with iems. It is possible to notice this situation with headphones or car stereo.

I will add the dryness is evident really with my Topping L70 amp. It was not that evident using it by itself or in my car.

Is there a dryness throughout the song, or is it a dryness that occurs when the atmosphere is created, as I mentioned? If it is a general dryness, the topping L70 may be adding to it.
