[FiiO BTR17/BTR7] True Lossless Bluetooth, Portable Bluetooth DAC and Headphone Amplifier BTR17 Is Officially Released!

This is not entirely true is it? the balanced output power can go up to 650+650mw via balanced output when plugged even when using bluetooth mode. I think there needs to be clarity in terms of on battery vs off battery since unlike the btr7 you can remain in bluetooth mode and connect to a outside powersource via the second usb.
Interesting what you say. FiiO should give the real power figures of the different connection modes. 👍

According to FiiO specs the BTR7 has maximum 320mw into 32 ohms and the BTR17 has maximum 300mw into 32 ohms.

The BTR17 technically has less power but so little difference that it is likely to be imperceptible assuming the volume ramp rate is the same on both devices.
That's what I thought but it seems like people are saying the output seems greater (maybe due to the new amp?) On the btr17.

I think some people are confusing desktop mode with the regular (i.e. on battery) mode.

An apples-to-apples comparison would be when using Bluetooth, on battery. That, I think, was the point of the original question.

Desktop mode is great but obviously it means nothing when “on the go”.

That is true of course, apologies.

I didn't think to elaborate because I didn't consider a use case where bluetooth, a power supply and more power output than needed for 99.9% of IEM would all co-exist.

It might seem greater if the volume ramp rate is faster on the BTR17.

That would certainly give the impression of more power when it is in fact less. Just guessing as a means to explain why the one with slightly less power on paper would seem sligthly more powerful in practical use.

FOR CLARITY - I am talking about battery power only, not desktop mode.

I posted in the other thread. Even though specs say the power output is the same when compared to the btr7 when on battery, I would normally have my btr7 at around 18 but now have it about 13 on the btr17 and seems just as loud. pushing the btr17 to 18 would be too loud while on the btr7 its a very comfortable loudness. Take that however you will. Just sharing my experience. A higher power ramp would account for this like BS5711 said.

I just know this crap sounds much better than the btr7 for my iems, but again its all subjective. the btr7 is smoother all around and more relaxed.

Attenuation of the signal will be different on the two separate devices and very likely not linear

i'm not sure it's just me getting this weird battery indication. i charged my btr17 till full a few times but every time i started up playing music it dropped to 60% on the fiio control app (only a bar less on btr17 itself). however, that 60% indication lasts a few hours of playtime and after a 2-3hours walk yesterday, i got the same 60% (same when i went out)!!!

will this be a firmware issue or what? my ak hb1 has same problem (it's actually worst than the battery life only last 4hrs or so). the btr15 has excellent battery life and more accurate reporting (so does BTR7).
Dear friend,

Hi, this may be the UI display problem. We have reported to the engineer for check. And if you would like to try the latest beta firmware, you could contact us via support@fiio.com. We will provide the download link for you.

Best regards

Received the btr17 today.
When I try to play dsd files in foobar2000,the btr17 screen do show dsd,but it didn't have any sound in my iem.
I could play the same music on my ka17,but not on the btr17 using usb connection.
Dear friend,

Hi, did you enable the EQ option in the BTR17? If yes, please try to turn it off and check again. I tried with the BTR17 in my hand but did not reproduce this problem.

Best regards

Indeed .... 13 and 18 are unitless numbers so comparing them may be irrelevant. Set it at what is the right volume, I don't see what the number matters at all or indicates anything.

I bet folks would have a much harder time differentiating the sound if compared volume matched and blind. Really obvious differences tend to become a lot less obvious.

Oh I know but you have no idea how many times I have seen people asking for this comparison across many audio systems when an upgraded model is released lol.

I still love my BTR7 more than a year after getting it, which is pretty long in the Headfi game... And quite long compared to my other items, except for the U12T that are even older...
I really like the design of the btr17, not sure I will change yet but that's definitely a plus for me...
