Hi! I bought the Fiio A1 and I am not very impressed. I had a problem that my Audiotechnica Ath M70x did not sound very clean when listening in loud volumes so I thought an amp could help make sound quality beter(it does tht right?). So I bought the Fiio A1 but I can't tell the difference with or without the amp. Why is that? Isn't it supposed to make things noticeably better at least?

I connect mine using a lineout cable, but not the one supplied. Fiio used to make a cable called the L3 for older IOS devices although this could be used in conjuction with an official lightening adaptor for newer IOS devices. That combo gave a much cleaner sound imo.
Fiio also did a cable called the L5 for the Sony Walkman, which i have used regularly too with much improved dynamics.

What are you pairing up with your ATH-M70X and A1? Your phone?
Hey again! Thanks for your replies. Sorry for the late response I just wasn't watching the thread lately. So yes I am pairing them with my phone .But I was actually wrong. There is an improvement .I did some tests and there is actually quite a big improvement. It's not anything revolutionary but it is there. If I want better sound I think I should buy a DAC in the future. But anyway do cables even matter? I mean doesn't fiio ship good cables with the A1? Do I have to really buy separate ones?stylus 75
Those cables i was referring to are dedicated lineout cables that give a cleaner signal through the main dock on the source device, so yes they do matter because otherwise i guess you are connecting your phone through the 3.5mm jack?
Well yeah.I might get a new cable. Though if I connect my fiio to the iPad(iPad Air 2) it sounds much better obviously.Because the iPad provides more power I guess? So I might also listen that way we'll see. But I will see those cables what they are all about. Anyway do you think listening with the iPad and the Fiio makes a difference than iPad and no fiio(I mean directly connecting to the iPad)? I mean the iPad provides a lot of power will the Fiio also help there or is it not needed? Also why did you ask how do I connect them? Is it better if I connect them to the charging port with some special cable?
The only way to hook up the A1 is with a 3.5mm aux cable of any kind, maybe he's not sure of what's going on.
I wouldn't recommend the A1 as one's first foray into better audio.
A DAC/amplifier combo unit is generally the better way to go. Not only does an improved amplifier over the little mediocre chip equivalent in your iDevice matter, but even more the quality of an upgrade converter. The DAC will help your M70x much more to achieve higher fidelity, and perhaps cleaner, playback of your music.
That said, I'm not sure what's compatible with your ipad, lol, someone else will have to chime in on that.
Also, careful with those volumes, it's quite easy to wear out your hearing.

Ok thanks!Yeah might get a DAC amp combo. And I will try not to listen too loud.
