No chance; the owners will all tell you that the ER300B’s need at least 2 sniffs and a month to burn in.
Damn you're right, what a rookie mistake of me😅

Is your AE in route for delivery?
Will be sent on thursday, since tomorrow is public holiday.
Therefore I'm 99% sure that I won't be the first to receive his unit.

With some luck it will still arrive in time for the weekend

I should be getting mine in 1-2 weeks.

What serial number you getting? I got 3. I was a few hours too late to claim either 2 or 7.

And they're tiny compared to the 6SN7's! Got these more for TM rather than Taks but will obviously do my due diligence. 😅

Considering picking up some used Elrogs for my Envy, but having read about the unreliability of the earlier earlier Elrog tubes is really got me on the fence with it. There would be no warranty, if they went wrong next week there would be no comeback which would be galling considering they are close to £1K. That said I note new ones only have a one year warranty anyways, were I to be spending around £1.5K on a new set I my expectation would be that they would last me many years. Wondered your thoughts on buying used tubes.

Personally I'm always wary on used tubes, for the reason you described. Therefore I also sold my own Elrogs dramatically under value back then, even though they were in top shape they were still used tubes.

I would avoid the older ones with the golden base. I bought some and was advised (here) about the unreliability and to simply not to use them.

I sent them back to the eBay seller and they did refund me but then also comment they work perfectly so I was worried about nothing.

Still; it might be worth saving and getting some new ones in.

Warranty is always a big consideration. One year is not long to begin with but at least if something happens a week later you are covered. I ordered some vintage mullard driver tubes from a well known seller and after two weeks one of the tubes went bad. It sucked because it took 60 days for me to receive them after ordering them. I sent them back and the replacement pair is going to be sent after extensive testing is done.

If there were no warranty, I'd be screwed. Some sellers don't actually listen to tubes in a real system before saying the tubes are good. They go strictly off testing numbers which don't always tell the true story.

I note that Western Electric offer a 5 year warranty on their 300B tube pairs, that puts my mind at rest a great deal more than the Elrogs 1 year offering and in itself would sway me towards WE. Probably there is more to it than meets the eye though, and I have written to them to clarify a couple of questions I have.
