Fully aware, no humour involved, I was asking about the Elrogs he used in his PE when he compared with the Meisterwerk as per the review.

It might be your eyesight that's weak and not your brain. (unless unlucky and a combination of both. ..)

Just got chance to try Wathen Cryotone 6SN7. Definitely the most forward vocal presentation from various 6SN7s i ever tested. Tonally at warm and smooth side, bass also perform well in term of punch and body, overall solid attack notes. Some said that they felt Raal Immanis' vocal could be too recessed when paired with Envy, perhaps this tube could be the solution.

Certainly doesn't mean they're bad, but for $150 each they would have to compete with a lot of NOS options.

Interesting info. I just checked some Shuguang 6SN7GT, none of them look similar to Wathen 6SN7 construction wise. I've tried some Shuguang 6SN7 and 300B, usually they tend to make everything brighter and leaner, which a bit the opposite of Wathen.

Agree about the price a bit high.

I swapped the Tung-sol with Sylvania 6SN7W and they seem to synergize better, at least with the Immanis. I only have a couple of days to test the combo, better make use of the time well.

This particular combo seems to make the Envy more linear and agile than the Riviera AIC10 that I heard previously but these are early impressions.

I swapped the Tung-sol with Sylvania 6SN7W and they seem to synergize better, at least with the Immanis. I only have a couple of days to test the combo, better make use of the time well.

This particular combo seems to make the Envy more linear and agile than the Riviera AIC10 that I heard previously but these are early impressions.

Takatsuki 300B impressions

Recently @Exekuhtor kindly lent me his Takatsuki 300Bs for roughly 3 weeks, to test them in my system.
As one of the most commonly recommended 300B variants I was quite intrigued by them.
My main 300Bs are otherwise the Elrog 300B and the Stradi S300B. Elrogs are rather neutral and well known around here, the Stradi S300B are warm, with the classical 300B signature. Some slight midbass hump, some slight rolloff at the edges, quite reminiscent of WE300B.

The Takatsuki have their own niche imo. They sound very clear and detailed, on ER300B level imo and therefore a step above WE300B or Stradi in that discipline.
The Takatsuki have a slightly emphasized treble, there is lots of sparkling energy up top. Potentially too much for brighter headphones or system pairings.
At the same time they are a little leaner in the bass than all the other mentioned variants.
All while keeping the sought after 300B magic in the midrange. Here they sit between Elrog and Stradi (also between Elrog and WE)
They have a slightly lean, very clear and detailed sound to them. Microdetails are exceptionally well presented.
This signature makes their strengths match exactly the weaknesses of my Meze headphones. Imo the synergy between the old Meze house sound and Takatsuki 300B is through the roof!
Everyone using an Empyrean or Elite on his 300B amp should give the Takatsuki 300B a try.
Immanis made all the detail shine trhough very well, but was a little too bright for my taste in that pairing.
From a sound perspective I'd sure like to own a pair, especially since the two Mezes are mainstays in my collection for years (and years to come). Unfortunately though, they received a quite drastic price increase somewhere in the last 2 years and are as expensive as ER300B-MO and therefore like a full grand more expensive than Elrog ER300B or WE300B.
Their performance is "only" on par with ER300B and therefore the price is hard to justify for me.
If they would have the same price tag as the other two, I'd certainly get some. As it is now I'll probably investigate into other variants first (Stradi 300B would be the next to try, but not any time soon)

What I thought of them as well, I thought they had similar "lineage" to Elrog but obviously different areas of emphasis (or lack of). 6SN7W was the main driver for me with those, the boost to low end worked well with them, 5692 was also really nice.

Can get them a lot cheaper than that BTW, same or less than a new pair of WE.

You should bring Sylvania next time we meet. Let's see how it stack up against Wathen. I quite like Wathen so far, had listened to it 3 hours straight last night. It definitely surprised me how enjoyable this new production tube.
