Feliks Audio ENVY

It's funny. After the kids turned the TV off I could hear a very slight hum with the Mrs X adapters. Very quiet but kind of like the noise it makes when you touch the end of a RCA cable with your finger when it's plugged into an amp.

Plugged Deyans back in and the feedback sounds more like tube whoosh...swapped them over and now Deyans are silent.

I guess I'll leave them alone and stop fiddling!

They are almost living things these things.
Yes, I had weird interactions as well. I put in new setup of tubes. They sound noisy. Flip them around and it goes away. LOL ...

Need to start a seance ...

My Brimar's are not as dead stone quiet as some other quads (Deyan's adapters DO help) but are a very nice 6J5G version at any rate.
I find any combination of the Brimar quad in my R chan are a bit prone to RFI, but not a bad 'hum' or loud buzz. It is barely noticeable between tracks.
I can take a small sheet of aluminum foil and shield the R chan and it does go quiet.

They are completely silent now.

Looking at the bases and pins of those tubes - they look like they could have been made last week. Excellent condition.

Really impressed with them.

I got lucky. Mine are silent.

I love them as well. Great quality.

I'd love to hear the Bartok vs Dave when paired with the Envy. :)

Yes I'm really not sure how they would compare but I'd imagine quite similar.

You just get a very good Digital to Analogue Conversion. The Bartok doesn't sugar coat anything.

The headphone out isn't the best though.

You definitely need an external amp.

I did consider other DACs like the Tambaqui and Dave (especially for their smaller footprint) but this one came up at a bargain price so I snapped it up.

Edit: Just to add, any change in tubes I can hear very clearly. Some tubes I might hear say 20% more detail or soundstage. I wouldn't hear that if the DAC wasn't providing that information in the signal. There are probably DACs which give you more information but since I can hear any changes clearly I know its doing a good job and am happy with it.
IMHO a DAC just serves a purpose to convert a signal, it shouldn't mess with it at all. You use the Envy with different tubes to tailor your sound. I bet the Dave, Tambaqui, Rockna DACs etc all sound great with the Envy. I read that they all do an excellent job.
I would also love to hear those devices as well but it's not high on my list at this particular moment 🙂

I have only HD800S of those two. It is outstanding on Envy, as is the case for every other good headphone on it that I’ve tried. It basically can bring out the best of anything you plug into it, assuming the rest of the chain is well-sorted.

I own neither of those, but from what you read they have very different presentations.

The HD800S will have a bigger soundstage and the Utopia will have noteably stronger Bass.

I had the hd800S and utopia 22 side by side off the DNA. I liked the utopia more. Better clarity, detail, dynamics, etc. hd800s only beats it in stage imo. Utopia depth in the stage is good tho.

Have to ask the dealer, still no Envy at by home.
And what's even worse is, that the Solitaire P is also still with Oratory1990...
