Scams and potential scams are getting far more common.

Take this fiasco for instance:
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=213805

Head-fi Forum Justice seems to be working so far, but it would be better to avoid it altogether.

Instead of having to search for each user's Buyer/Seller Feedback in a forum, it would be much better to have it integrated into each user's profile. And it shows up right below their avatar for all to see.

Here's a pic of what one actually looks like on another forum.

And here's what it could look like on Head-fi.

The feedback number is a clickable link to full feedback info, much like eBay.

Check it out, here is one of the many forum that uses this feature. I believe it's a plug in for PHP.

Here are a few examples:

What do you think?

Defintely something worth looking into. I can't comment one way or another in terms of feasibility/practicality, but do think that it would be a nice feature if it were easy to implement.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ed. You've laid it out in a straight forward and simple manner. I suspect that, ultimately, this one will be up to Jude.

It will be interesting to see what people think about the idea. At first blush, it makes a lot of sense to me.

Gah, my post just got deleted when I almost finished. Anywhere, here's my retype, which I'm sure will be a crappier version than my original post.

So a forum I go to has a system like what Edwood proposed. First the seller and buyer figure out the transaction. The seller then creates a thread on the "Agreements" forum, which will state the seller's username, what item(s) are being sold, how much the buyer is paying, and the buyer's username. Then a feedback bot approves the transaction, moves the thread to the "Completed Transactions" forum, and distributes the feedback. I don't know much at all about the feedback bot. Note that those forums are run by phpBB, rather than vBulletin which Head-Fi is based off of. I don't know if that makes a difference, but it can't hurt to know.

It'd be nice, but a high number will most likely give a good feeling about a seller. Unfortunatly this high number could also contain a lot of negative feedback. Because it's just displayed as a number of how many feedback the user has gotten, I doubt many will still check the actual feedback of the user. It can turn out to be quite unreliable and maybe even as an advantage for scammers, because negative feedback could be interpreted as positive. Offcourse highly unlikely, but should be kept in mind.

Oh yeah, if someone flakes, scams, or anything of the sort, that's -10 feedback and if you go in the negatives you can't view the sale forums anymore. I dunno what happens when people are legit then turn into scammers.

It's more like Audiogon. Where the number reflects a cumulative number.
Clicking on the number shows all the info like eBay, Positives, Negatives, and Neutrals.

Although, I like the Percentages shown instead of a pure number. Gives a better idea at a glance, but it's still a good idea to browse through the feedbacks.

I'm against it because it means everyone has to start from zero feedback again, some of us have years of good transactions stcked up here. All that will be lost, as I doubt the mods have time to claculate every single member's score based on the old feedback, and obviously, you can't leave it up to individual members to import their own score (look at me, 2000 positives!

).

I think a better idea is to just include a link to your existing feedback in the drop down menu when people click on your name just like you see for PMs and profiles and such. Maybe there could be a spot in your User Control Panel that allows each member to insert the link to their feedback. Again, I doubt the mods would be thrilled creating this link manually under each of our names. So, it's still up to each member to update the User CP with the link, then the software sticks it under your name.

Probably not feasible either, but another idea...

If you look at the first transaction mentioned as a sign of problems- the first problem occurred when a member swapped their headphones with catwoman when catwoman was a new member and only had like 4 posts.

http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/searc...8&pp=30&page=2

The guy swapped his HF-1’s with catwoman when they had joined that day and had like 3 posts. Come on will a feedback system stop that kind of ignorance?

Catwomen made like 4 posts the day they joined and then started selling things.

You’ll never protect people from their own ignorance. You can’t legislate or technically control common sense.

I guess my thought is- once Head-Fi starts to maintain a feedback system they are in a sense part of the transaction and could be held liable?

Would it appear that Head-Fi is confirming a Sellers reputation- Head-Fi said he had 100% feedback until they ripped me off. Head-Fi owes me!

As a buyer or seller I am responsible for doing the research and checking on the Buyer or Seller myself. If you’re not willing to make the effort and check then don’t do the transaction.

I’d think personally Head-Fi as an organization needs to distance themselves from the For Sale Forums. Establishing feedback like discussed would require an arbitration system. More work and oversight for Head-Fi with No added revenue.

I think Head-Fi should maintain a hands off approach to supervising the For Sale Forums. If not then Head-Fi should charge for posting transactions on the For Sale Forum and maintain the membership and it’s feedback.

IMHO it would be a little easier, having a clickable feedback link right there beneath our avatars.

many users post a link in their sigs which helps greatly too.

We all gotta start somewhere. I don't mind being at zero for profile feedback - we can always continue to link to our pre-change feedback threads anyhow, and a profile feedback would catch folks who don't have feedback threads listed.
