Tom Waits' Blood Money. It was Alice but since I saw the play Woyzeck at BAM a few weeks ago Blood Money means a lot more to me. I still love Alice.

The Roots. Phrenology. Just released today.

Insane brilliance. While The Roots abandon their "organic jazz hip hop" sound of the earlier days, this album pushes the envelope for hip hop even futher, expanding the sound into other areas rather than recycling the same tired sound that you hear on radio today. They are one of those rare groups who dare to create something new and fresh.

A limited-edition DVD came with my copy, containing two classic videos, two un-aired performances from MTV2's $2 Bill Concert, and a behind-the-scenes look at their tours and the making of their new album. Well worth the $13 bucks.

About Wilco, I read an article on them in a September issue of The Georgia Straight that brought up their use of number stations (from the short wave band) on their album. I did some digging and ended up downloading some transmissions. They can be very creepy, but exciting to hear (for a while). There's a link here of several transmissions. #22 is rather interesting. Some say that there's a spy theme behind these messages. I'm no conspiracy theorist though. Back to our scheduled thread.

is the best thing I've heard (released) this year.

Of other releases this year, I thought:
- new FSOL - 'Isness' was flop.
- Boards of Canada 'Geogaddi' was another hit
- Underworld '100 Days Off' - good, but not as strong as previous release
