Favorite Fast Food

Maybe I got lucky but I was at a McDonald’s and perhaps it’s possible they got a really good batch of ground beef

I ordered a double quarter pounder burger and I have to admit. The quality of the beef was pretty much just as good as the beef as you would find at expensive restaurants. The burger had a really nice fully body beefy flavor and nice and juicy. Also, the burger had a nice pink color medium temperature inside which is something I’ve never seen at a McDonald’s.

I think the burger was accidentally under cooked because it’s usually well done and grey color in the middle. However this one had a pleasing gourmet tender texture and nice internal pink color to it. This was definitely an excellent quality gourmet level burger and probably a fluke

Yes I know it sounds crazy but beef is sometimes unpredictable where cheap cuts can be surprisingly better than expensive cuts and the opposite can happen where expensive cuts of beef can potentially fall flat and underwhelming.

So I was at McDonald’s again and did the drive through. When I picked up my order the employee smiled while handing me my order.

Wow, that was actually shocking to see. Normally you would only see employees smiling at the customers in those old vintage TV commercials. (You can see them on YouTube by the way)

I mean if I worked at fast food resteraunt, I wouldn't be smiling. I would hand you your fake burger with a grief face. I recently tried the cheapest menu burger, and my lord the burger tastes fake. chicken nuggets is so fake too. They have fake meat or something.
My favorite is In'n'Out, but that's probably a typical answer for Californians. :p

He says "the iceberge lettice, it's the best I've had." lol 😭 He says the secret sauce is "thousand island" is the highlight. It is thousand island or same sauce as mcdonald's bigmac sauce. in and out is def better than Carl's Jr and Wendy's, however, I think Whataburger is better made. I hate Whataburger due to excessive salt.

I’ve had In n Out in Los Angeles and it was good. But not amazing. I had it in Arizona and it was shockingly bad. I was actually surprised at how bad it was. The meat patty was literally like 2 millimeters in thin size and there was a big ball of lettuce so it was basically a lettuce sandwich rather than burger.

In the category of chain restaurant style burger joints, the best I’ve had was 7th Street Burger. It’s the best burger chain because the beef had an intense beefy flavor as in it tasted like high quality steak and a strong umami meaty flavor. The downside is that 7th Street Burger is only available in New York City (about 15 locations) but they do have one location in Washington D.C. area. Although I can’t guarantee if all the locations are going to be consistent.

Chicken: Popeyes dark meat, cheaper and addictive, Cajun fries also very toothsome
Burgers: Shake Shack > In-Out >> 5 Guys >>> McD
Pizza: Italian (old fashioned, boutique, New Haven), Greek style, some Deep Dish - lots of choices in E. Mass
Pho: lots of good Pho around here
Donuts: Krispy Kreme - best in Winston-Salem NC, not local here
Overall: Pressed Cafe (E Mass, S NH) buries Panera (never mess up orders, much broader selection, very consistent)

Subway/McD/BK/Wendy's/Sbarro/Hardee/Moe's/Taco Bell/Arby and many more = never again

Got the McDonald’s limited edition McRib sandwich.

How was it?

While it’s not great, it’s actually not bad and overall enjoyable. I like the simplicity of it with just raw onions, pork meat and barbecue sauce and that’s it. It’s basically a pork like burger with the raw onions, pickles and bbq sauce.

Compared to the old days. I first had the McRib back in the 90s or maybe early 2000s and at the time I did not like it. It seems like they improved the quality of the bread and barbecue sauce since then. Overall not bad. But not great. I would probably get it again but maybe like maybe 5 years in the future

I forgot to mention the onion rings from Whataburger.

They’re actually not bad. There’s much better onion rings out there but if you’re in the mood for onion rings, it’s a decent choice. Here’s a photo I took

Mexican carne asada tacos

I just had this about an hour ago. It was from a run down kind of nasty looking Mexican grocery store that had a few tables and served some quick excellent tacos

So delicious! And the house made hot sauce (not shown in the photo) was also excellent

The beef had a great steak like beefy flavor and the other ingredients were on point. So good!

Korean “fast food” - ground pork over rice (photo below)

So for my lunch today I was at a Korean restaurant where you order the food from a touch screen at the door. The food then comes out at the counter on a cafeteria style tray and you eat at the table or do take out.

This pork over rice was very good and satisfying. Although I would say this dish is more like a Japanese style donburi rice dish. A very nice and satisfying lunch.

Chicken Shawarma

I feel in some ways the best fast food is middle eastern foods like shawarmas and falafel sandwiches. One of the reasons is that the flavors can potentially be more complex

This was my lunch today. A really good chicken shawarma with a very nice spicy harissa sauce.
