Any of you guys found long lasting, quiet, 80mm case/cpu fans?
I could sure use some recommendations.

Its a modded/windowed case, so LED fans would be a plus.

Whats decent these days?

try the CoolerMaster UV Silent fans... those are silent...

but truth be told that 80mm fans generally makes lots of noise. the best way to silence them would be via a fan controller or undervolting them. that would make the fan spin slower hence generate lesser noise.

if u can...try fitting 120mm fans. better airflow with less noise.

I know, but this is with a smallish midtower, 80mm all around.

I need to slap one on the Athlon XP also, and the board has no holes, so I'm stuck with that as well. Everything is pretty tight anyways.

I have a coolermaster on there right now, it's just a little much. 20-25dB is gonna be the maximum, and heres hoping I can keep a cpu cool with that.

Is the fan speed adjusted automatically by the motherboard? If so, you might be able to lower the speed from inside Windows through a 3rd party program and still be in the safe temperature range. If not, you should undervolt the fan, but, again, only if the processor doesn't overheat.

another thing you can do it to manually lower the fan speed.
you might not need that extra 20% of airflow.
so dropping you fan from 3000 to 2000rpm might just do the trick.

also, some board deliver more voltage than the fan is requires to reach the desirable speed, resulting in a fan spinning faster than it was designed for. so the fan blades vibrate more than they should

close to impossible to get silence with 80mm fans. 120mm is the only way to go. try taking a dremel and cutting out a larger hole for your case. Also a fan controller is a must. I also predict you have a 80mm fan or two on your power supply. Try upgrading to seasonic power supplies.

SilentPCReview is where I learned everything about silencing my computer.

ball bearing is a no no. Sleeve bearing is quiter (though has about half the life expectancy)

Mod case to fit 120mm or undervolt
