I've talked to David and it appears to be a specially tuned version of the MKVI to their 'taste' with the HD800. I'm guessing different tubes to be sure and possibly some higher end innards. He didn't seem to mean any topology changes of any kind, just a change in voicing.

So it is real, it is similar to the MKVI. I don't know if it is available yet or not because I didn't ask.

I read somewhere that this new one is not suitable for low-impedance headphones, whereas the MKVI can be used with both low and high impedance ones. I cannot find where I read this, sorry
