I have to admit, that I am getting tempted to pull the trigger...

Just some very quick comments from my very first impressions (10 minutes or so...), with the LS-2a fresh out of the box:
  • The LS-2a sounds more "rounded", softer than my X9000. Very enjoyable!
  • Both headphones are very resolving on about the same absolute level.
  • The X9000 can provide quite a bit of "out-of-head" experience, and the LS-2a does that even a wee bit more.
  • The LS-2a sound seems to have more bass volume, but the X9000 bass has more slam and clarity.
  • The X9000 has more PRAT.
Let's see what happens in the long run.

Oh, and what's the purpose of the little magnet stuck on the Allen key that came with the LS-2a?

“I will also attach a magnet beside the tip of the screwdriver so that the screw does not fall off while you try to remove it from the headphone”.

I just ordered these, after an audiophile existential struggle of sorts, as I'm in the midst of selling off my better headphone gear. It's hard for headphones to compete with my Tannoy Canterburys (two pairs!). But I regretted selling my ES1a. So if I fall in love with these, and they work well on a more modest amp, then swell. If not, then someone gets to save some time and money when they go up For Sale!

Classic brown, Stax cable, extra pads :)
