Erzetich Charybdis

Hi @shrek22

I've totally forgotten to believe in the performance of CHORD products since ASR (Audio Science Review) carried out tests on some of their equipment.

Objective tests are a must for me. But they must be coupled with subjective tests. You need both, not just one.

I own an Astel & Kern SP3000. And it would seem, according to the Charybde dealer in France, that the SP3000+Erzetich Charybde pairing is a real winner.
Thank you. I was earlier using mojo with DT1990 and liked that combo so was thinking of Hugo as first option, but looked at the ASR review after your input and understand. SP3000 looks great, but I actually mostly listen via Tidal, and use Tidal offline when not on wifi - which I understand is not an option on SP3000. But still a great option really as I will always have wifi at the hotel / lounge. While searching for it, I also came across Sony am2 and wm2 which are Android based and with tidal offline. Will check these out too

Woo wa8 eclipse. I don’t think it gets any better than that for a portable (not really pocketable) all in one solution and it has glorious hot tube action. I had one and loved it. You could probably modify your headphone travel case to fit that in there too.

Cayin c9 seems like a pretty interesting option but no built in dac on it.

A xiaudio broadway is fairly small and can run like 6hrs on the internal batteries but it doesn’t have a dac so depends on your source situation on that one.

You can get as hardcore as you really want to with it, nobody said you can’t bring a smaller desktop setup with you. If I traveled constantly I might do the broadway plus a nice little dac and just get them a little pelican style case to travel with. I mean if you’re gonna be hardcore than might as well be as hardcore as possible lol.
Thank you for the multiple suggestions. Will do more research on them. While looking at wa8, came across wa11 which also looks like a good alternative. I think I haven’t reached that level of hardcore yet to carry separate dac and amp units 😀. But good to know these portable amp options.

Wa11 is decent but definitely not as good and no where near as cool as the wa8.

Tried it with the iFi Gryphon and it’s good, the XBass option was a good fit I think.

Ah got it.. wa11 ruled out then 👍.
Are you confident about the wa8 power output though? It says online that wa8 has 350 mW max output. Blaz told me Charybdis need 2x180 mW or more. So it’s borderline?
Idk for sure as I don’t own the Charybdis. I ran a ZMF VC on the wa8 which are 300 ohm and 99db sensitivity but they are dynamics. It only put out 120mw SE at 300 ohm and my VC were blasting at like about 40% volume. You could email woo audio and ask them. They are pretty good about knowing what their products work well with and what they don’t.

Great suggestion 👍 let me write to them and check. Wa8 does look very cool! 🙂

Looks like this is not an option anymore. They are not available anywhere online, sold out 😐. Only wa11 is available
Edit - sorry saw that it is available directly from wooaudio website 👍

Thanks, he couldn’t ship outside Europe. I have ordered from wooaudio website. Now awaiting both Charybdis and Wa8 😇
Nice. Please let me know once you get a chance to test it out how it sounds. Im considering the Charybdis and I still have the woo wa7 gen 2 w/tube psu which is extremely similar to the wa8 sound.

So the creaking is getting worse until it creaks badly if i even twist the headband slightly. So i forcefully twist it hard many times and adjust the headband. Now it stops creaking! Im a happy man :L3000: :dt880smile:

Received the wa8 just now! Beautiful. Will burn in with my dt1990 pro while I await the Charybdis 🙂
