You can use E182CC and its American equivalent and also 6CG7 in the same socket as 6N6P. I use Melz 6N12S in adapter instead of 6N6P. Same pinout as 6SN7. There is nowhere to hide from tube rolling...

There was a time I wanted to buy every tube and adapters. So I still have a pair of these. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Alright I was out for about 7 hours and in that time, I made an executive decision.

I will have an Ultima in wooden chassis (similar to picture below), upgraded teflon tube sockets, 6SN7 as base driver socket, extra 4pin xlr headphone output in addition to 6.3mm.

All connectors in front and at the back will be top mounted. Lastly I will have an upgraded ALPS blue velvet volume pot.

I have decided to add Silke output transformers to my Ultimatum.

Thereafter I'm retiring. No more amps.

How do they sound?

6CG7 are use in preamp section. Very nice sounding tubes that are clear and airy with a good tube tone. They are effectively a BA9 version (9 pins) of the popular 6SN7. They are medium mu of 20 - same as 6SN7.

I am listening to it with WhispEr now.

It's my one and only 12ax7 and it's made in Holland and has a white tip.

It's fired up now and at 100 mu, there is no noise with Grado RS1X. Gain is higher than 12at7 (60 mu) but this Amperex 12ax7 sounds great ! Amazingly sweet sounding. Sweet clarity is what I call it. Soundstage seems to be enlarged.

This guy spend some time evaluating 6922 or equivalent tubes. 1974 and 1975 Voskhod are featured in the top ten. Whether that is important to you is another matter. Mine is 1975 grey shield but I don't think it's the expensive variety. What does it matter, it sounds great ! :)

Now you've a whole list of 6922, 6n23p, e88cc, 7308, e80cc to try. Good luck !

I've got a few 1975 Voskhod and Reflektor 6N23Ps and to my ears, plugged into my GOTL's 6SN7GT socket, they are indeed mighty fine tubes. :)

Thanks for confirming Ken. It's good to have that verified by an experienced tube connoisseur. :)
