Mandatory reason for excellent sound quality. But now you'll need woden interconnects and, why not, a wooden fuse? That one sounds best.Part of the reason for going with a wooden chassis is to match with my wooden Grado.
Surprising to learn that 6SL7 with gain of 70 is not too high (for Grados).Current favourite tubes so far in WhispEr are:-
EL84, Brimar 6SL7, 12AT7 (GEC A2900, Brimar CV455), 6N23P.
This is with Grados. With IEMs, probably lower gain tubes might perform better.
Hmmm. Gotta get one of these pocket dynamite tubes! Would the year be important with these?Wow Voskhod 6N23P in WhispEr touched my soul. I have always love this tube and now hearing it by itself is an experience to die for. How can a tube so small, yet sound so clear in the high frequencies and have midbass that beat in pronounced rhythms, in perfect timing with your heart beat? This is the Voskhod, the pocket dynamite.

Truly glad WhispEr turned out as great as I was hoping for
Yup. My 6EL3N amp has 1-stage / 2-stage switchGlenn was fond of one stage amp and build the EL3N amp in both one and two stage.

I have a very nice pocket knife in cocobolo. Lovely wood!
I missed my chance of a wooden chassis with Odyssey. Was in discussion with Tomas on that but in the end decided on the metallic silver chassis because it would blend with EL11 and EL12 spez tubes grey color.
So finally an amp in a wooden chassis for me. Pity I can't get it in Cocobolo. The one we're getting is mahogany or rosewood.
Awesome! Well... not for my wallet. This guy spend some time evaluating 6922 or equivalent tubes. 1974 and 1975 Voskhod are featured in the top ten. Whether that is important to you is another matter. Mine is 1975 grey shield but I don't think it's the expensive variety. What does it matter, it sounds great !
Now you've a whole list of 6922, 6n23p, e88cc, 7308, e80cc to try. Good luck !

Interesting... I did not know that! You can use E182CC and its American equivalent and also 6CG7 in the same socket as 6N6P. I use Melz 6N12S in adapter instead of 6N6P. Same pinout as 6SN7. There is nowhere to hide from tube rolling...
