Hey Matt. Have you ever tried the Sakuma style on the UltimatE? I see that Mrs X has adapters for EL3Ns to both 6J5s and 6v6s and also heard that EL3Ns are excellent for 300B amps as driver tubes.

No I have not but you can. Only those with 5v rectifier can because they have 2.5A allocated to the drivers.

I couldn’t use EL11 in your amp as drivers because my adapters are EL11 to EL34. You need EL11 to 6V6 or 6J5.

As for EL3N, since both adapters for EL3N to 6J5 and 6V6 are available you can go ahead and order it and use it.

I ordered a pair for 6S3P and will receive it on Thursday, but no warning like that.

OK, I will order the adapters for 6J5s and will try the Sakuma style on the UltimatE and drivers on the SupremE when I receive it.

EL3N and EL11 amplification factor is 20. The same as 6SN7. Not particularly suitable for 300b but you can try it. With an efficient headphone it will be ok.

Hi, I saw that more as just extra info than a warning. So if you intend to run both types of tube you only need the one adaptor.

This is the best combination, EL3N, GZ 37 with either C3G or 5A/152M for the Sennheiser HD800xx (modded) period. I have to put EL3N tube up there with EL39. It sounds sublime, very full extensions to all frequencies, dynamics and clear. If you like vocals and instruments, this is it. The UltimatE has surpassed and took over the DNA Sonett 2 as the champ for the Senn HD800xx.


I do not talk about this very lightly. Donald North used Senn HD800s as testing headphones when he built Sonett 2. Credited and thump up to Eric the Master Builder.

Have you tried EL11 instead of EL3N? I have heard both in Euforia and I have heard EL11 in Ultimate. I prefer EL11 but EL3N will sound warmer if that is what you're looking for.

I have received my GEC 807 ATS25 in brand new sparkling condition. In terms of built and robustness, it is better than EL38, EL39, EL12 spez. The glass is thick. Base is tight and top cap very secure. Been listening to it for a day and tone is very good and right up there with the Fab 4.

Beautiful GEC tubes you got there. The ceramic-based 807s sounds are special. I do not have EL11 and EL3N, indeed warm, but with either C3G, 5A/152m and Sennheiser HD8xx, they sound so right at a perfect temperature . People always complain about HD800s needing EQ or this and that. The only thing you need is an UltimatE amp.

It's also my opinion that HD800 and HD800S synergised perfectly with Ultimate. I have listened with both version of the Sennheiser. @xtiva said the same thing when he came to my place to audition Ultimate. He did prefer Odyssey but only just.

There is another amp that is very good with HD800 and that is Oblivion which I am incidentally listening to now because someone ask me about Oblivion.
