Regarding Emo...

I assume the 30 day trial period exists regardless of sales or not? What about return shipping (on a heavy amp)? Restocking fees?

Well after being delayed by New Years and a snowstorm... I'm hoping my DC-1 arrives tomorrow. Will be strictly using it for the next few days with the Vali and HD800 and then I will do some A/Bing with the gungnir over the weekend. I'll also be able to give it a go with the airmotiv 4s next week when my friend brings them over.

Interested in Gungnir vs. DC-1.

I know that Gary has put both dacs into his group of indistinguishables but I will be going into the comparison expecting them to sound different. At the very least, different gear, different ears.

He found that they sounded similar, but sent the Gungnir back based on relative value.

The Gungnir is a DAC, the Emo adds a pramp, analog in and a HP amp.

Yep. The dc-1 has more features but the one thing that the gungnir has going for it is the modular parts for potential upgrades in the future. Possibly sometime after the release of Yggdrasil.

Well it's my third day with the Emo and never needed to AB it with my other DACS......I started laughing 10 seconds after I turned it on. A whole different ball game from the less expensive gear I've been using. With my Bottlehead Crack and my Sennheiser 600's it's a amazingly sweet sound. I keep falling asleep!!

What dac did you use before? The jump from the a entry dac to a mid-range dac is quite noticeable but once you go beyond that... it all becomes quite subtle imo.

Thanks to Gary it's going to be very, very long time before I start lusting after something better....more expensive.

I see it a little different from the recording engineer perspective, I'd say for me it's like this

the jump from entry level / mid grade DAC to high end DAC is staggering!  And quite noticable indeed.

I consider the Emotiva to be a high end DAC.  It just happens to be priced well...at least until tonight.

Yeah... I can see in that case it would probably be a huge difference, being an owner of an E17 a year ago xD

Well... I don't think i'd be able to tell the differences between dacs reliably with a hd600 either.
