Hi all, I'm new to these forums and came to check out the most recent discussion on the Anni as I'm a proud new owner. It seems like a lot of bickering in here! Anyways I recently upgraded from the Prestige LTD. I definitely feel the diminishing returns but the treble clarity and expansive sound stage is hard to let go of.

Prestige LTD is already good on its own, i asked some of my friends to blind try the iems and they actually prefer the prestige most of the time depends on the song. When they saw the price they didnt bother considering the Annihilator LMAO.

I do prefer the leaner mid-bass and easier fit of the Prestige LTD over the Anni but Anni still won out for me overall. Fortunately for me, used prices have come down recently, but they're still crazy compared to the Prestige.

Hi guys, I love my Anni but sometimes their beautiful top can tire me out. Do you have a trick for that? I've tried different tips but the effect is rather cosmetic. Of course I can use EQ but I'm not a fan of it because I have the impression that it ruins SQ. Any proven idea?
Thanks :)

I've never had that issue which is interesting to hear in your case.

Have you ever tried the Azla Sedna Short Light tips?

No, I haven't tried them but I'll give them a chance since you recommend them 👍 I'm currently using foam tips, they slightly soften the treble but the bass sound is worse.

Yeah Foam tips are weird to be honest, I've tested several ear tips and settled on the Azla Sedna Short Light tips, they give the best balance based on the tips I own.

Anni 2023 treble microdetail and extension is godly without being cold/sharp but there is a small chance it could be too energetic for some people.

The amount of highs that Pilgrim Noir has is perfect for me. If Anni sounded similar on top I would be in heaven ;)

I also use Azla Sedna Short Light tips and find them really good. Interesting that you say you are using foams to soften the treble. Are you sensitive to treble? I can be quite sensitive and I’ve used foams on what I considered treble heavy IEMs in the past. With Anni 23 though I find the treble quite smooth, even though it reaches quite high. I don’t get on with a lot of soft silicon type tips but for some reason the Asla tips seem to work for me. Hopefully they may help you too.

Don't have Anni anymore, but I used to go back and forth between the wider-bore Azla Sedna EarFit and narrow-bore Final E tips. The wide bore of the former seemed to pass through Anni's inherently forward upper midrange, whereas the latter attenuated that to a degree. I liked how both tips sounded, but depending on genre, mood, fatigue or whatever, I'd swap them around.

Maybe a narrow tip would help tame that upper midrange for you?

Tips should make a pretty noticeable difference with the Annihilator.

Generally, you should steer away from foam tips. As you've found, they kill upper-treble which puts the focus on the frequencies under that and, depending on the IEM's treble tuning, can actually make treble sound more 'heavy' and forward. They also result in loss of perceived resolution for the same reasons.

Final E tips, which are narrow-bore, usually have this effect albeit with tightened bass response because they're silicone and fairly rigid.

The Azla Sedna tips, in general, are tips that will make the Annihilator sound brighter and leaner. This is because they are wide-bore, so they let in more upper-treble and don't enhance bass. The Sedna Shorts (with the blue stem) are probably the most balanced of the Azla tips and (IMO) sound the best with the Annihilator in terms of the Azla tips.

Tips that I've found that take the edge off are the Azla Xelastec and DUNU clear tips (not the candy ones or the S&S, they included these with some other IEMs and you might have to dig for them). Not sure if the DUNU S&S would have the exact same effect; I'd imagine its similar, but those tips tend to work better for shorter nozzles.

The Azla Xelastec definitely have a more linear effect where they lower both the upper-midrange and upper-treble, and that's what I'd probably recommend:

Divinus Velvet tips also work pretty well for taming treble.

Personally, my favorite tips with the Annihilator are the Spinfit W1 (which are stock). But those definitely lean a little brighter.

Hope this helps! :)
