EF2A Paired with AKG K540 Headphones

Kind of depends on what you mean by good combination. What are you looking to achieve and at what price.
I have that amp/dac and my Grado phones are 32ohm phones just like the AKG's and the two sound fine together. Only slight problem is the EF2a has a lot of gain and no way to adjust it, so you don't end up with a lot of control if you want to listen at low volumes. Other than that though, it sounds fine. Just remember it isn't going to sound it's best until the tube burns-in. Didn't take too long on mine, maybe a week or two of casual listening. Bass is loose and boomy and the treble a bit harsh until then. Having said that I think you can do a bit better for the money, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the response.

I already have the K540's and have just ordered the EF2A, I was just looking for some insight on what to expect  :)

If I was to upgrade one of the above what would the best to match to eg swap the K540's for the ATH-M50's

Hope this makes sense

Andy
