Eddie Current Zana Deux owners

What does the OG stand for and what were the mods?

My ZD has been on this forum before... it had a pretty long history before it came to me. The mods were to the output coupling capacitors to increase the bass response, make it sound more like a ZDS, and the feedback circuit to add a switch for high/low gain/impedance.

I do want to compare it to a ZDS one day, though I doubt I will ever let it go, as it's pretty unique. It sounds so good I'm not even sure I want to "restore" it anymore. Though if I can wrangle a fancy dress face plate, and the ZDS's coupling capacitors, I just might, as I listen to it on what I assume is close to the original circuit (lower feedback, higher gain/impedance) exclusively.

I want to power some speakers with the ZDS, what do you suggest?

And the rolling begins.

PS: an ECC35 is on the way.

So, I might be able to get my hands on an Zana Deux SE, #2 SN (assuming EC has #1?), completely unmodded, but I'm not sure what a reasonable price for it would be. I tried searching for previous sales but nothing has come up.

Anyone know a ballpark estimate?

Assuming this is actually an SE and not the original ZD (serial #2 makes me thing it's the original), I have seen the SE version sold a couple times, both around $1,500 (give or take a couple hundred). Considering the ZD line is discontinued altogether they may go for a little more now.

A feast for the eyes and the ears. What a pairing!

Hows your V281 compare to the Eddie Current? I would expect it ti be a bit trounced...

I'm listening to the Stellia as I write. The Stellia has a lot of energy on the treble. The V281 sounds a bit harsh, a bit rough. The Zana is more enjoyable, but I don't hear a night and day difference. Regarding the Utopia, I don't even pair it with the Vioelectric. I bought the V281 specifically for my planars, the dynamics are driven exclusively by the ZDS.

I hear no harshness with the V281. It must be caused by something else in the chain, maybe the DAC?

The harshness is on a relative scale compared to the Zana. I wouldn't call the Vio+Stella harsh, but the Zana sounds smoother.
