Such teasing!

Can't wait to hear your impressions...

There was a recent crimewave in the neighboorhood, bunch of 12 year old schoolkids lost their lunch money, old ladies their purse - real sad.

I'm lucky, in Holland a PhD is a paid position - you get a 40 hour a week contract with a regular salary.

That's a pretty good price btw, strange they're already selling so low

They have a 15% discount on the whole site these days, but as I said never ordered through them although with FIANet rating not too risky I'd trust them.

I do think Earsonics will have to drop its price in the upcoming months, competition is fierce at TOTL level.
I am still a bit worried at the issues they had with the initial batch of the Velvet, I hope QA is up to par this time especially at this price point...

What I think might set the S-EM9 apart from other TOTL's is a more forgiving and musical nature; instead of revealing every microdetail just a smooth, always enjoyable sound. I'm basing this on its relative high impedance of 38.5 ohm, similar to the Velvet. Many monitors become sensitive to bad recordings amd while it has its advantage, I also can't just put on a playlist with 100 different songs like I used to since a lot sound bad.

Ps. If it fits Sect44's description I'd be more than happy.

What are you talking about?  Other than Layla, name one TOTL  iem that "reveals every microdetail" like an HD800.   They all have rolled-off treble due to the limitations of BA drivers, and half of them sound dark and veiled.   Roxanne, 1964 Ears A12 (and U8 before that), Noble K10 (and Heir 8.A before that), Sennheiser IE800, Shure SE846 ALL have that "smooth, always enjoyable sound" you are talking about.    Why should IEMs be designed to sound "forigiving"enough that you can put on a playlist of a 100 different songs and not have to adjust volume and/or EQ.    For me, I listen to everything from classical to metal to electronic to rap to noise/experimental, so there is no IEM where I can go from an overcompressed electronic song to a classical song to a distorted/over-driven noise song that would blow my eardrums out.

For those that like a veil on their IEMS, to sound "musical"  and "forgiving" like a Sennheiser HD650, you have plenty of options.   Go buy a pair of Roxannes and let the IEM makers focus on actually pushing the limits of what microdetails BA drivers can reveal.

For the rest of us, that want to hear the recording as it was intended, we need more TOTL IEMs that sound like a Sennheiser HD800, because right now we don't have many.   Having said that, I was hoping with this BA configuration that this unique IEM would fit the bill, but now I am not sure.

So if I understand correctly you think an iem should be as revealing as possible, I mentioned I wouldn't mind if this one was more forgiving, and somehow this made you very upset with me?

Have you owned those iems you mention? Because you are generilizing between some very different iems. The 8.A and K10 might be smooth and forgiving, I'm pretty sure the IE800 and SE846 are not.

Sure I want an iem to be detailed and revealing. I just said I personally wouldn't mind if this one, within a collection of others, is more forgiving.

I'm terribly sorry if this insulted you in some way.

ps. If you were expecting this one to be more revealing and detailed than current TOTL iems, you have clearly never heard an EarSonics iem.

I am not insulted nor upset. I am just baffled that people want their TOTL IEMs to be LESS resolving. I disagree that 846 and IE800 are not smooth and forgiving. Maybe compared to Roxanne. But they are still missing top-shelf detail that I can hear with full size over ear cans. Again, this is due to limitations of BA drivers, but why would we want to compound the problem by seeking less detail?

We just have different priorities for this particular iem. There are two intertwined aspects: being resolving and being forgiving. I have two iems that are very sensitive to bad recordings, one that is intermediate and one that is very forgiving. I have a very resolving (for a multi BA) iem coming - so I personally wouldn't mind if this one is more forgiving in my collection, because I will have enough that are not.

If I only had 1 iem; I might want it to be as resolving and detailed as possible. But this iem is different for me, because I know and love the EarSonics housesound which can be considered as more dark and 'musical' if you will - pretty much the opposite of detailed and analytical.

I hear the new Empire Ears Zeus might be very resolving, or the SE 5-way Ultimate perhaps.. Might be more in your direction.

True story

Although something can be resolving without being sharp for sure
