DX80 Purist Firmware Modification - For purist audiophiles
May 27, 2016 at 4:37 AM Post #106 of 134
I didn't put much of audio related tweaks except to make it more purist and improve ui performance for public release. But it should have audible improvements for purist audiophiles using revealing rig.

Regards,
Windows X

WindowsX, I'm downloading your FW now and I'm about to flash it in for a test drive. Even if the sound isn't for me, I want to thank you for all of your hard work—and for contributing to the ongoing improvement of DAP firmware.

You're welcome. Please let me know if you'd like to try the full firmware update in future. I used to develop better firmwares but people like Lurker0 kept complaining about my works so I stopped posting public release since then.

If you're willing to share a download link with me, I'll gladly try it.

I haven't had the chance to A/B your firmware yet. Life has been complicated lately; however, I intend to get around to it very soon. Thanks again.

I suggest you to try the current firmware first then since this one isn't free. It was part of my DAP modification upgrade in Thailand.

You can use the file from the beginning of this thread. EQ function is still there but it won't work for real.

I received DX80 model from customers to perform hardware/software mod today so I can finally look into the ROM and try modding without bricking the device. Since I don't want to make science debate about tweaks that affect sound quality, I'll stick with only DSP removal for this mod.

This mod will have the following changes below:

-Based on official version 1.4.2
-Change fallback font to Helvetica Neue and use Nimbus Sans Global Light instead of Bold
-Optimized ROM configuration for better performance
-Optimized storage performance
-Optimized video rendering performance
-Removed audio effect engine completely
-Removed Equalizer feature
-Removed unused binaries and library files for smaller footprints
-Removed video components in particle components configuration

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/gayj9aaapdqde0v

Your DX80 should have DSP-free playback engine now. Let me know if you notice any changes in audio performance with this mod.

Windows X

I guess you can with enough tools for manual implementation.

Hi!
Your firmware would not power on without pluged-in power supply.
Please check and repair.
Thanks.

I tested the ROM and it works just fine. Please flash stock back, do factory reset, and flash mine again.
