I think you're over expecting too much from the dx50. I doubt it'll reach AK120 standard, most likely it'll be on par or just ahead of the AK100, but definitely won't reach the flagship level.

If you would own a DAP that is on par with the AK100 and costs only $230, would you still keep your $1000+ AK120?
I sure won't.
(Unless I'm stupidly rich...)

I'm perfectly fine with that, as I have no intention of paying $1300 for a portable player. The DX100's price is where my limit is and that's stretching, I might have pulled the trigger on it if the thing didn't have so many issues. For the price of the DX50, I can deal with various issues.

Lol, neither will I spend that amount on a dap. But for those who already spent that much in the first place, they will be sacrificing the sound performance to downgrade to a much cheaper dap with better than average sound quality.
Which is abit skewed since why buy that in the first place if you are willing to downgrade?

My reasoning will be different than most people. I'm not expecting the sound quality to be on par or better, but instead am wondering if it is not far off. If that is the case, I have no need for the AK120 any longer. I'm not a portable type of enthusiast. Most of my critical and enjoyment listening is done at home on full sized equipment. The AK120 (couple with my IEMs) purpose at the moment is so that I can have 80% of that enjoyment on the go. If the DX50 stand alone or amped gets me close to that 80%, than I have no need for such a luxurious player like the AK120.

The UI/GUI and sound quality need to be up to snuff though, so we shall see.
