For the first proper time, i’m going to listen with super gain, initially pairing with my Sony MDR-Z1R’s, listening to the silky voice, that is Boz Scaggs ! ( I actually have a bit of a love / hate relationship, with the listening of my MDR-Z1R’s, so hoping that will change for the better ?? )

Can I just confirm again, that’s ok to keep on charge, while doing so ? I have battery saver on, so at a constant 80% charge, of course.

I wish there was an accumulated “audio time” feature, just so as I know how many hours played…..

EDIT : Panic !!! Enjoying, continuing to Boz….but the player won’t light up now, when I press the wheel, short or long press & Boz, is still currently playing, think on the last track now. I’ve taken the charging cable out. I hope I haven’t damaged anything ! ?? Will see what happens, just now, when album has just finished playing….i unplugged DC -IN & held the power button down & it seemed like an eternity, before thankfully it powered back on.

Should I be using it in this way, as described above ? Why would it go into some kind of shut down mode ?? Is it because i have it on constant charge ??
No problem using it that way. That's how I use mine at home. USB Charger plugged in (80%), 12V DC in (LPSU), Super Gain On.

Thanks! I grabbed that as well but it looks like maybe I’m missing the tip adapter that fits. Do you remember the label and color on it?
If you get that cable it comes with the correct adapter. One of the reasons I chose it is because I can use that cable for other devices I own with its included adapters in a power outage situation because I live in a hurricane prone area.

@Rob49 You won't damage anything. If your charger can supply enough power the DX340 will run in battery by-pass mode. This mode should be talked about more as it is a great feature that DX340 has and no other Ibasso has. If you are going to use plugged in and battery is charged 100% or 80% with battery saver on (which is really not needed because battery so easy to replace) I would power off DAP and then plug in charger and then power on. I have found this to be needed for battery by-pass to work correctly. Think of the DX340 like a laptop. You leave plugged in most of the time unless you travel etc. Battery is bypassed. If you unplug battery is used. The more you use a battery the faster it wears out. You have charge limit set at 80% and I have my laptops set to not fully charge and set charging as primary plugged in use which means battery level can drop some even when plugged in and battery won't charge until it reaches a certain point. I have a laptop that I have used plugged in only 95% of the time from 2016. Its battery is still good. I have another laptop that I travel with etc and use the battery a LOT more. I have had to replace this battery a couple of times already. Moral of the story if you want to use Super Gain like I do just use a portable power bank with cable and run the DX340 in battery by-pass mode all the time. My DX340 batteries should last many years and I get to enjoy Super Gain always AND listen to music for 24 hours straight if I wanted before battery bank needs to be charged. I get to carry 2lbs of weight with me but the SQ and portable SG make it worth it. A plus is DX340 is in a pouch so it has some protection if it were dropped.

Your screen not lighting up: I would flash the latest FW. That should not be happening. A flash will likely take care of that issue as I have never had it but NEVER done OTA or local updates. Flash is best way to update an Ibasso DAP. If you remember back in the day when Windows was upgraded before MS finally improved the process? There were always issues vs doing a fresh install of new Windows version. A FW flash is a fresh install.

Thanks for your help @mattclarke18

As I’ve said, in other posts, I struggle with technology, even understanding what appears the simplest explanations, even a charging plug ! ( Just affected with my impaired cognitive function. )

This is the charging plug i am using. I actually bought this to charge my Chord Mojo 2. Is this ok ? It appears to charge fine.

Going back to, the screen not coming on, even for short press, while my music was playing with DC-IN, you’re indicating I need to do a firmware update. Can this be done from the device, ( menu ) or do I have to do a download to my ( very old ) laptop ??

I do not think that charger will supply enough power for battery bypass but I do not know the EXACT power requirements for battery bypass so I could be wrong. Looks like that adapter is USB A from the specs on it - max 12 watts. I have Anker charger that puts out 30 watts. Others maybe able to comment on the power requirements.

To flash FW you need a PC. Updates from device itself are OTA/over the air just like a cell phone. The guide below is what you will need to follow. IF you keep having that issue you can try a factory reset on DAP itself. That may solve it as well and much easier to do. https://github.com/Stouthart/DX340 has directions to do this in Recovery Mode which is better than doing in DAP menu.

For anyone in US that has issues with FLASH or wants me to root and optimize an Ibasso I will do it for FREE with you just paying shipping both ways.

Thanks again, for your help & info. I wonder if the charger had anything to do with the player, going into shut down mode, so to speak. Strange that the music continued to play, too, until i realised it had “switched off”.

I will look into the FW update over the weekend. Again, thanks.

I think some process was using CPU or something causing screen to be non-responsive or could be other issue. You are welcome!

Any “final” impression on amp 16 after proper burn in? 😁

The 340 will charge fine with QC standards PD is a little weird sometimes. It has two modes one being 5v 2amps which on the lock screen you will see charging. The other mode is fast charge it will display charging rapidly. QC rapid charge for that version of snap dragon is 9v 1.67 amps. If you are trying to charge and use the 340 on a 5V it’s possible, let me repeat possible not saying it will. That it can discharge while plugged in. I noticed this last night while it was plugged into my MacBook it was very slow but it was discharging. Ive been testing a lot of chargers on the 340. I would recommend getting something that is QC compliant with a 9v 1.67 output. If you run the 340 down and only use a 5v charger you will be waiting about 6 hours or so to fully charge. The 2.5 hour charge spec on the website is at 9v 1.67amps. It seems like the more charging options the brick can supply it can cause some issues charging. It has on my unit and others have reported this as well. I have a lot of anker power banks and bricks that are capable of over 100watts output. All of the bricks I've tested over 60 watts can cause weird charging behavior. Stick to something 30-35 watts that supports 9v 1.67 amps out.

Thank you @jstuart83 for your info & advice. I will have a look online tomorrow, probably starting with Anker….
You are welcome I would try to keep it QC and not PD standards, no higher than 35 watts. I sent a bunch of different chargers in to Bloom audio because of some weird PD charger behavior. iBasso wanted me to send my unit in for repair. Bloom was able to confirm the same behavior on their unit and have some others here on the forum. Something is not right when the 340 try's to charge off some PD chargers. Higher output battery packs and chargers may or may not work at all. They said they sent the information to iBasso. Im hoping we see a firmware update in the coming days to correct this.

I hope tariffs don’t impact the price. I’d like to get one but probably won’t have the funds saved until the summer.
Easy solution. Save 1200 to 1300 and buy one in classifieds. As long as bought from authorized Ibasso dealer and you get receipt from seller you are good. You may have to stalk classifieds. You can use this site to look at past sales and current ones: https://www.hifizero.com/index.php?q=ibasso+340 IF you buy one that has minor scratches they can be polished out easily and you get to save even more money.

@jstuart83 I have a call to train Bloom next week and will ask about battery charging issue status. I am going to teach them for free how to do Flash and some other stuff on Ibassos so they can fix more problems locally vs sending off to China. They are such a FANTASTIC company that really goes above and beyond for their customers and I will do anything to help them to help the community.

I will be going over my Flash guide this weekend and will try and clarify some things to make it even easier. Thanks @Daniel4IEM for your feedback.

Yea they went above and beyond by allowing me to send them some devices to test on. I definitely saved me the trouble and headache of sending my unit in and then receiving it back with the exact same issue. I really hope iBasso can sort this out.

They will sort it. We just have to be patient. They have released a lot of new products for a small company. Now they have to re-do DX260 which is something I am sure they didn't plan on. Wish they would just skip to DX280 and put same DAC as DX340.

I have confirmed that the cnss_diag issue is also present on DX180 from someone that owns one. In the next month I will be getting a DX320 to apply latest tweaks to so will see if that one has issue as well or has any other issues that need sorting.

I have just updated DX340 flash guide so please use most current version. Link remains the same. I have had better success using Qfil version that is one release older than most current available. I also clarified some things like how to select all files in Qfil.
