Were you collecting reel-to-reel proper or reel-to-reel rips? I have quite some vinyl, quite some CDs but i dont see me buying a reel-to-reel player but i have some rips, of albums I own, and, well, i do think i prefer these… hard to find though :frowning2:
The reel itself, but those are hard to find. The player itself is also ancient box and hell of a trip if something goes wrong lol. Vinyl is a lot better to take care for and storage

We really have reached the top, from all the TOTL offerings. What more can we expect or want going forward, really. Just different flavors. One area I see for improvement elsewhere though is that these manufacturers should offer a decent looking and fitting case. I know it's my opinion although the case offered here is dog ugly, I would throw it in the bin first thing, same for the Hiby R8IIs case.
LOL, I quite like the case.

Someone mentioned that all amps lately from Ibasso are class A. Can someone confirm if the amp 15 that comes with the dx340 is class A ? Is there toggle for switching between A and AB in settings?
Far as I know, they are Super Class A. No toggle between A or AB. They are different class, and need different design in order to switch

I've never had the chance to try class A so far . Not on a speaker stereo nor dap. I read that the Class A tends to bring ,,analogish" warmth to the sound but judging by the Ibasso house sound description that is perhaps not always the case. I have 10 days until payday, to decide should I go with the m8t or the dx340 .By the way as of today the dx340 is available as instock item to order here in UK, unlike the m8t which is still with "preorder" availability. Thanks Whitigir for confirming that

I dont know about this. But allow me to share my own experiences. I listened to DAVE before I bought my DMP Z1, because DAVE didnt impress me back then. Trebles extensions were full of graininess, it causes "digital glares" and also brought sibilances on those textures. This stopping me to try Hugo 2 out

Back then, I sold my DMP Z1 because it was a transportable. Hardly portable, of similar level to my Desktop DAC with OCXO (Oven Controlled crystal Oscilliator) master clocks. Upgraded PSU and analog tuning components.

I still use my desktop DAC...but I was never satisfied. The digitalness was never truly gone, and so neither does the achievements of analogues fluidity and kinetic energies.

My experiences comes from many areas, including acoustic pianos and digital organ that my daughter play daily.

I went on a frenzy and collecting AAA records, reel 2 reel Master tape....DAT or Digital Audio Tape...etc... just to prove a point that Nyquist stated "digital music can be perfectly quantized and play back"....but no...it never gets those analogues from my AAA records (red labels). They stand for Analog performing to Analog recording to Analog reproducing. These are ancients being.

I stopped playing around with digital music for a while ... until Ibasso D16 as the very first Device that brought new discrete 1 bit into my experiences. Simply because it is affordable and I got curious again after a few years of standing still. I knew 1 bit was cooking back when I stopped tinkering, and Mola Mola ... DCS...MSB...were all eyeing it. Nah, I aint paying a Supra in price for these stuff. But D16 as a stand alone caught my interests.

People who didnt read what I meant about D16 and analogues and also who wonders why some one dislike 340 analogues can start here to get better ideas.

Hiby and Cayin 1 bit didnt ring my interests, because their customer services were not as good as Ibasso and @Paul - iBasso .

On another hand, just for gigling. Ibasso had a marketing slide to imply that Chord...either gen...has only 20E while D16 which the 340 has similar technologies...has 128E. Technically as a DAC design, the D16 is superior

Then again, we all have our own personal preferences. One may prefer the analogues of 340 and other may prefer the digitalness from Chord. Like @damascato responses. Therefore, I do agree that these 2 are very different. You gotta listen to them and decide for your own
Hmmm obviously very personal but I still haven’t heard a source- especially portable- that trumps my modded DAVE and Mscaler stack.

When portability is not a must and I’m at home, I always pick the desktop stack over any of my other sources- including for IEMs.

I’ve had the Dave/Mscaler/WA33 in my home setup and it was only bested by the May/Bliss setup to my ears and that was music genre and incredibly headphone subjective which is the same for speakers.

The Dave/Mscaler is a clear view above the clouds where visibility is 50miles. Incredible clarity. Too much for Utopia, andAbyss 1266TC but amazing with Susvara to my ears. Susvara was my favorite with the Holo stack too
Though. Overall I haven’t found a dap solution I would choose in home over one of my big rack setups if stationary at my desk either. I should add the Bliss amp is amazing with IEM’s. ZERO noise floor.

So, I reached 163hrs burn in on Thursday and started listening using HE1Kse and with the 12v plugged in. Safe to say I'm a pretty happy bunny.
In this thread I've read that the bass is lacking but that's not my experience. In comparison, the DX300 bass seems more forward but somewhat muddy and the slight harshness apparent in in high notes belted out by Ann Wilson not evident. In Operatic works like Carmen, everything is well controlled and "real". Love this thing.
Of course, we don't all hear the same, like the same things or use the same head-fi so opinions remain just that. Still, we all like to hear ourselves talk.

I had the Bliss KTE prior to getting my DAVE and Mscaler modded. Awesome bit of kit that worked really well with IEMs. Sold it after I was able to get quite a bit more out of DAVE's amp, adding an external amp took away some of the magic for me.

I’ve always felt for the 0’s and 1’s don’t change in sound crowd, they haven’t listened to the Dave/Mscaler combo with great transducers versus a topping D90. There’s levels.
