I'm having trouble updating the firmware from 1.03.408 to 1.04.440 using the updater, always get the message "failed to install update package!", I'm using @Stouthart debloating and advanced tweaking v5.6, do I need to do a factory reset?

I think you meant that you tried to use the updator app.
If you're flashing the firehose image itself, you would have to put your DX340 into EDL mode and then use the QFIL program to manage partitions and flash the img file.
Yep, it's one of those things where the harder you try, the harder it gets. You have to align the plug as accurately as you can over the jack and then gently wiggle it in. If the plug is at an angle, it's near impossible.

Weirdly I had this problem last night, I had, on a whim, removed that black rubber piece and, boy, did I regret that!
I found a way that worked for me to put it back in, although it is not quite what you expect. On that piece of rubber there are two protrusions, one is for the hole for the 12v socket the other is the one you are trying to reinsert. I put the one for the hole for the 12v socket in the socket for the 3.5 mm jack plug. This keeps the one you want to insert aligned but it is a bit raised up, which is useful at this stage. Then I took a very small flat head screwdriver and used that to to insert the protrusion you want back in. I used that tiny screwdriver directly on the protrusion underneath the main flat part of the piece of rubber, not on the back of the flat part. I hope that makes sense.
Good light and a magnifying glass will be beneficial!
