It is, but let me stress, the DMP-Z1, is still an amazing experience, from when I first heard it. I’d say the DX340 matches it & actually surpasses it, in a way. They both have that detail & clarity, but there is just that something about the DX340, that it’s just gone to another level. As I said, if I had to try & pin point one aspect, it’s the vocals, including background vocals, but saying that, it’s the timbre, too & the DMP-Z1 has great timbre. Don’t forget, that the DX340, doesn’t have a DSD Remastering engine, either, but just sounds incredible !
Just off the top of my head, for example, I was listening to Billy Joel, the other night & like many artists, i love, whom I have listened to for decades, his voice was different, the tone, the expression. It was like listening to his vocals in a new way & I have felt that with other artists, that I have so far listened to
Try to focus on the organic instruments housing resonances, reverberations, and dynamic extensions. Those all together combines and generate the feelings of liquidity, timbres uniqueness, that I have not heard from any digital systems
No instruments housing will sound similar to one another,
they are all uniquely standing out. Even similar guitars playing simultaneously on similar chords
Sounds like the D16 was a real game-changer for you! If it outshines even high-end desktop setups, I can only imagine how the DX340 takes things even further. Must be an incredible journey rediscovering your favorite tracks!
Yes and indeed that it was. I am always curious about these reproductions stuff and I love organic instruments, pianos, saxophones, flutes, percussions...etc...
I always chased and tried to understand the techniques, the terminologies, the topologies of these so called digital to analog reproductions. I collected a few many books of these myself. Also with technologies science backgrounds, I went on and on with upgrades, modifications and so on...to chase just this specific and uniqueness of analog sounds
I was never able to satisfy myself on those areas above. I especially dislike that once multiple drums and percussions being played out in a complex passage, they are all generalized, or summed up, to be very general and losing the emotions that were supposedly eveloping the listener feelings.
I gave up for a period, until Ibasso was to produce the D16 and PB5, I was interested into the PB5 primarily, and went on researching about D16. The 1 bit and analog Fir filters networks caught my attentions. I wouldnt expect it to perform the way I wanted. Hell, I am always trusting Ibasso for
their products and supports. So, it didnt hurt to try.
It turned out that the D16 surpassed my expectations. I

I also talked about R2R and DAT systems which I gave a
try here
That was why I was very interested in dx340
as a single all in one DAP. It also surpassed my expectations
