SORRY..... I meant AMP12

*Fixed it, thanks!
the Amp12EXN-S turned the 340 into the best sounding player I’ve heard till date.

I bought a bunch of impedance adapters to experiment with. They all affect the sound. The top end is removed, the stage is closer, notes get rounded off.

The ifi IEMatch is the least destructive. It still does affect the Sonics. Reading the specs on the box. The lowest setting is <3.6 ohms. The next step will be to try something less than that.

Ignore the iBasso burn in cable. It’s very early in the Morning now. Brain is still asleep.

Maybe I'll try that in the meantime. Thanks for the recommendation!

I also have a AMP15MUSE coming my way so I'm excited!

I feel it may need a lot of burn in time. Fresh out of the box; there's more bass but doesn't hit as hard; soundstage is smaller; isn't as authoritative as amp15
My first impressions are the same

What is it and where do you buy it?

Just received my Amp16. Unfortunately AB mode worked for both 3.5/4.4 out, but Tube mode only worked normally on the 3.5mm. On 4.4 out left channel worked, totally no sound from right channel. Clearly hardware fault. Returned and asked for a replacement.

What happened to their website? It looks like it doesn't exist anymore. Is NPAudio kaput?
As Per @DAPpower
NPAudio would be another option for modding as well but I have corresponded with Steve and he tells me that he has not yet had a DX340 sent to him yet and was busy dealing with some legal business with Sony UK (which was why he took his website down temporarily) and has been preoccupied with family-related things.

Damn, that's super unfortunate. Are the court filings public? I'm super curious what harm Sony alleges he did them. My assumption is that they're being massive dicks for no real reason.

From what he has told me it was just back and forth correspondence between him and Sony UK as Steve is waiting to see what their next actions are. Hopefully nothing serious as you never know with these big companies, they have the resources to pursue people.

With the AMP16, you have to get around 100 hours on it and it improves from there. For me, it was pretty good out of the box then went flat for around 50 hours and then started improving. This is in tube mode. Doesn't even sound the same to me. Big and bold is what I would call it now. Very layered an fine imaging.

That sounds nice!
Burn in is a must!

That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. I’m glad that I’ll have a chance to demo the DX340 before I decide what to purchase. I will also get to decide if a newer device, like the 340, actually makes a big difference vs the older SP1000M in my setup.

I don’t buy equipment very often, as evidenced by the fact that I’m still using my circa 2019 SP1000M (and my Chord Qutest from 2018 that I stole from my stereo setup and needs to go back).

I don’t necessarily need a portable DAP; rather, I need a small device to function as a DAC with my Tsu V2 for my desk. But if my chosen device ends up being a DAP, then so be it. I have options.

This is why I’m contemplating and trying to demo first. It really has distilled down to DX340 vs D16 vs awaiting D17 release.

I live in a portable audio desert 🌵 🐪 so I have to ask questions on here to help with my decision.
Hi, I’m curious to know how you found the DC340 compared to the Qutest in terms of resolution and tonality. I appreciate you’ll have an amp hooked up to the Qutest too.

To my knowledge, iBasso DX320 Edition X was a special version with AMP14 installed out-of-the-box.
They both use the same ROHM chips IIRC. Probably not a heaven and earth difference between them in terms of technical abilities.
