Yes it does. Everything in DX340 has its own space giving awesome large holographic stage. Rohm didn't have the stage of 340. Female vocals in particular are so beautiful. For me Rohm was boring. 340 very engaging. iBasso is going in the right direction. Did you use new FW or old?
This was my first listen with FW 1.01.237 newest I guess.

Laying and separation are standout on the DX340, that was a massive takeaway against my very capable Astell&Kern Kann Max and the DCE.

I really do like the tonality of the DCE but it's certainly bested by the superior source.

It sounds like a great value for the money - DCE that is. I have not flashed the new FW yet. I now can do it with the 660 Tool. I am afraid I won't like the tuning of the new FW and have to redo everything on my DAP. If I wait until Fri or Sat I will have 2nd 340 that I can do anything I want on.

Yepe, the more composed mid range on ROHM also show on 320X and 320M. It however, renders the mid bass and sub bass rumble to be more satisfying. But this will never go away even if using line out and into external amp.

The 340 begs to differ here greatly. The 340 has a lot of airiness and spaciousness, so is the separations. But the limitations on portable amp15 running +/-8V couldnt bring all of that out with authenticity prowessness, resulting in less satisfying sub/mid bass impacts. It can and will do so once running in desktop 12V mode. The better the 12V supplied, the better it performs, even as a pre out.

Then once I connect this Preout toward much more capable amp such as Pb5 and my 300B-WE, everything just pop with authorities and authenticities. It does the same for when I connect to my 150" projector and 13.2.1 Theater but using only 2.2 stereos setup (2 front speakers and 2 subs).

I did say that, the 340 has an amazing DAC section, and the amplifications never have limits, the better the build and the voltage, the better the 340 will perform.

Just wait for GAN fet amp17, and you will see the true form of the beast.

Now, this is interesting and different than R8ii.

This blocks flow show similarities between hiby and 340. Where Hiby clearly is calling it R2R. Using 2X more resistors as compensations. Not sure of the values but clearly laying out, wording out as analog filters.

It offers NOS and OS which is the true topologies of converters. The Oversampling is stated to be 16X which is a lot. Never seen any DAP that does much in OS.

The amplifications is 6V and turbo racks it up to 7.5V where as 340 typical is 8V and DC in is 12V. Dual batteries on the 340.

As far as what I see, the RS8 is more advances than the 340 in DAC designs, but with modular amps and dual batts, mangoOS, the 340 is more advances in power and amplifications.

Rs8 has DSD1024 capability and pcm1536, which is the most I have seen in any DAP. Sporting dedicated analog volume controls and not digital attenuations. Tanatalum components from Phillips which I have always loved and deemed as equally good as Kemet when I modify stuff.

The price of RS8 is justifiable VIA Titanium chassis, polishes, Goldplating Brass chassis for battery. This must greatly reduce the noises from the batteries itself as a grounding medium and improving feedback signals integrity, which in turns yield improved sound quality.

Overall, I dont think the RS8 has any hisses from @twister6 review. The RS8 must have been released While I was under hibernations. It is mightily impressive, and for the price due to unique designs.

Yes, I agreed with @damascato that one must give RS8 a chance if 340 is lovely. Especially the analogues perfomances as they are similar in built but RS8 took it another notch. Me, personaly, I dont have the leisure to demo, and also dont want to deal with other customer services, especially when I love modifying stuff. Yes, I love modifying stuff @mattclarke18 , where as Ibasso will always sell me even the face plate, and Paul responsive answer to inquiries, I wouldnt want to reach under the hood of something as $3K, playing around, and .... can not find replacement parts, or replacing battery easily

Well, back to loving my new toy and it lovely analogues quality. The first DAP in my experiences that urging me to go and find new collection of organic instruments and modern genres of music!!

Talk about battery, I just helped a friend with 1Z from ancient time! I am still amazed at the copper gold chassis by the Walkman🤣. In battery swapping, the 340 wins!!! Look at those soldering sucker!!! Lol

New Sony DAP incoming this year, this one will be very special & expensive. The last or current fare was almost a waste of time.

They will cap it too and make it worthless.

Optimization guide will take a couple of weeks. I want to try stuff and won't have 2nd 340 until Friday or Sat. I want to use it rather than my primary so I can enjoy my music. DX260 great for its price and place but does not hold a candle to the 340 and have to listen with that while my 340 is hooked up to Qfil. Root guide will be posted later tonight. I am still working on it. I have to make it very easy for the average user to do so that takes a lot of time to get lots of screen shots etc. I hope people make use of the guides. Root process took about 10 mins. Hours to do guide. If anyone does not want to do their own 340 they can ship to me including a return label and I will do it for FREE.

You have the current modules to disable. I posted that. You can look at my 180_340 current optimization guide for some things. Its going to change a lot for 340 if what I am going to test works well. You can root original version or new FW. I am still on original so I can make a proper comparison between new and old FW. NO data loss to Root.

Here is the How to Root DX340. Please someone try this ASAP and let me know if there are any issues. I will then post to @Whitigir thread and mine once someone has tried. Updated it 1-27-25

That's Truth. Thank you so much @mattclarke18
This DAP deserves all the customizations and optimizations we can do. It is a master piece!! See if we can improve things even more.

Purchased a DX260 a few months ago, could anyone tell me if the PEQ / FIR / filter options are similar on the DX340? Sorry if this has been discussed before, first time clicking on this thread.

I don't use Mango so can't answer that one. The harmonics in 340 are not same. They actually change sound. Dx340 would be a huge upgrade from Dx260. I have a Dx260, hopefully not for long and there is no comparison. Dx340 is far superior. The stage in Dx260 is much more compressed. On 340 it's big and halograohic. If you have the money it's a great purchase. It is not as light as 260 and so far for me battery life is better on 260. I have a new unit and have not calibrated the battery. It's not even a week old. Just rooted and made a cpu adjustment so I will see if that helps.
