Hello. I am currently using astell kern se300. Do you think there is a reason for me to switch to dx340? Has anyone tried both?

FWIW, I’m currently using the SE300, current sales prices make it a buy of the year in my experience and to my ears so far, I’ve not had the 340 yet but have had the 300 Max Ti, and the 320 with multiple cards.

Even though I listen to predominantly edm classical crossover such as Olafür Arnalds and the like, I find the R2R of the SE300 to be a great sound. At original retail prices I’d probably pick the DX340 over the SE300 just for the ability to upgrade amp modules down the road but then again I use Roon everyday and iBasso not being Roon ready is a drawback.

If I’m spending multiples of thousands of dollars on devices and transducers I don’t want Android downsampling my music. Also I use Roon in a NUC in a remote room on purpose so it’s not an option to direct wire through noisy usb.

I’ll try the DX340 at some though even though I’m happy with the SE300 for now.

It is not a noob question. I think those apps have something to do with Native Android SRC. I think they adapted into it for better universal purposes that can work on anything androids.

I can not change my sample rate to native with even Amazon Music...they always appear 192Khz LOL!!!

I just listen to my stored collections. But I can see how annoying this problem can be. I hope someone else can chime in
All apps I have tried, play at the native/variable sample and bit-rate of the source material. That includes Mango Player, Qobuz, Hiby, UAPP, and Neutron. Spotify always plays at 44.1kHz because that is their only supported rate (until Spotify lossless arrives, if ever).

Bluetooth is a different story, at least to my knowledge. The sample and bit-rate are not driven by the source material, but primarily by the BT codec, dictated by the capabilities of the source AND receiving device. Some settings can be tweaked via Developer options. There is also an app for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amrg.bluetooth_codec_converter. UAPP also has great BT support since its last update.

You aren't kidding! The sale price on that DAP is amazing! Its a closed OS with battery you can't replace yourself. I do not want to be forced to use their player and I use Wavelet and Nuetron. I bet iBasso will make a R2R DAP eventually and it will be an open OS that is rootable. If I didn't use Wavelet I would be tempted to buy one because of its sale price.

Ok so I’m concerned I have been wrong on my understanding of the capabilities of the DX340 with Roon streamed over WiFi. Can anyone confirm the below to be true, AI makes too many mistakes still for me to trust it implicitly? Does the DX340 pass through Roon Streams via WiFi bit perfect?

The “Variable rate” setting on the iBasso DX340 applies not only to USB audio output but also to playback through apps running on the device, including those streaming over Wi-Fi, such as Roon. This feature ensures that the sample rate of the output matches the native sample rate of the audio content being played, allowing for bit-perfect playback whether you’re connected via USB, local storage, or Wi-Fi.

Streaming Roon Over Wi-Fi:

When streaming music from Roon on your home Wi-Fi network:

1. Roon Settings: Ensure that your Roon core and the DX340 (running Roon Remote or Roon ARC) are configured for bit-perfect playback. Disable DSP features like sample rate conversion or volume leveling in the Roon settings.

2. DX340 Settings: Enable “Variable rate” in the DX340’s audio settings (Settings > Android audio > Android sample rate). This ensures that Android won’t resample the stream and that the DX340’s DAC processes the audio in its native format.

Important Notes:
• The “Variable rate” feature allows the DX340 to dynamically adjust its output to match the native resolution of the content. This is effective for audio streamed over Roon, as long as the source audio and signal path are configured correctly.
• USB Audio: For USB output (e.g., to an external DAC), the DX340 also supports passing through the native sample rate when configured appropriately.
• Wi-Fi Streaming: Streaming from Roon (or other apps like Qobuz or Tidal) over Wi-Fi to the DX340 takes full advantage of the internal DAC’s capabilities, provided no resampling occurs at the source or on the device.

In summary, the “Variable rate” setting ensures that whether you’re streaming over Wi-Fi from Roon or connecting via USB, the DX340 outputs audio at its original sample rate, maintaining high-resolution, bit-perfect playback.

Can you confirm my question above?
"Settings > Android audio > Android sample rate" does not exist on my DX340. Anyway, Roon typically ignores Android audio settings, as it applies its own playback drivers/API...though only for certified devices, which the DX340 is not. Thus works when connected via USB DAC mode, not with locally installed player.

If you use Roon Remote or/and Roon ARC, Android will downsample
AFAIK, it's not Android downsampling, as we have a system wide bypass for that. It's Roon refusing to use higher samplerates on non certified devices. (For those interested, even in Termux playback at 192kHz is possible.)

Ok that makes sense now. So I’m still stuck at square one but thank you for the clarity!

Ok thank you and as I assumed AI isn’t taking our wives and lives yet.

This makes me wonder ..what if you root the 340 , is there a eay to bypass Roon certificate checking ?
Requested IMG FW for DX340 from Paul but he has not sent me link yet. Maybe you can ask him for it and he will give it to you. I got the impression that he was not happy with my guides which I am revising and will be posting updated ones this week. The DX180 guide should work with the DX340 as they both are same Android version. If you/someone could give me a list of enabled modules on the DX340 I can give better list of ones that can be disabled before my DX180 is sold. Yes I am selling 2 DAPs and will likely get a DX340. Then will compare DX340 and DX260 and decide if I want to keep the DX260. If all 3 sold the DX340 will only cost me $600. With ADB App Control app the console command is "adb shell pm list packages -e" and just copy and paste and post or PM me.
