I've read a ton of Twisters reviews so I understand his audio vocabulary and what he means by this and I agree with him in comparison to the DX340. In his reviews "revealing" usually means sharper note edges or less coloration, not to be confused or synonymous with outright detail or resolution.

I think another example you could use here to try relate would be the typical DS sound versus r2r. DS DACs usually have a more defined and sharper note edge whereas most R2R DACs have that smoothness to the notes that sort of lets them flow into one another. You could say DS is revealing while r2r is more analogue or organic. I hope this helps!

Perhaps he can elaborate though!
Twister is prolly my favorite most reliable reviewer in the game

Just upgraded from a DX180 to DX340. You guys weren't kidding. This thing is big and heavy compared to the DX180. it's like carrying a brick in my pocket.
Question, do you guys carry this thing around in your pocket with you when you are out and about (example, like walking the dog), or do most of you just use it on your desk or as your main deck/amp at home?

PS: I still need to go through the burning process, but initial thoughts, it's sounding great, and may replace my RME ADI-2 DAC FS and become my main deck amp for out and about as well as on my desk.

Its definitely on the edge of being not portable but I do carry it in my pocket when out of the house. Also, fellow kikuo enjoyer :beerchug:

I actually have ordered the ddHiFi C2023 to carry it on the outdoors without feeling weighted down (from my pants pocket), I should also have space for the IEMs and some other stuff too. Build quality if great from what I read as well :)
It sounds like a upgrade depending on what looking for 😉
My thoughts exactly!

Also how do one goes about changing the AMP cards? There's no procedure explained anywhere (nor in the manual).
Do you have to first turn off the DAP and then take out and replace the card or can this be done safely while the DAP is still running/in use and it will still get recognized successfully?

I disagree and I’m curious about the term neutral. As I don’t consider neutral to be coldest driest unalive representation of music. Having spent most of my life seeking out live music. I’ve never heard a dry ass concert even classical lol.
So I’m not hearing downgrade at all - I’m hearing:
clinical/lifeless = 320
How instruments sound irl=340
That's how I would describe it as well.

I have their older DDhifi pouch to carry my 300Max Ti & 340 around. Damn good pouch!

@ToneDeafMonk btw...
I was also looking into LHY Audio LT3042 - which is a 12V 2A battery power external LPSU...somewhat similar to what KAEI offer for their TAP but in a more powerful (I believe) format. This has a noise floor/ripple current as low as 1uV which is amazing (that I've read).
It also works as an "external powerbank" - larger, but linear and better - can work with no external power source - not plugged in, or plugged in to keep the batteries charged. The output always uses current from the batteries through a linear regulator.

The other one LHY AUDIO 80VA has a noise floor/ripple current as low as 20uV...which is a "huge" difference in terms of cleanness at this level.

If just 1 output is enough and max quality, lowest noise is to be achieved, 12V and 2A is enough, if you want to be "portable/transportable" (bonus not main reason for sure in this case), then LT3042 is the better choice.

Thoughts?
I also took the liberty or ordering yesterday the USB-C to 2.1mm to try out an external powerbank with the AMP15...that however probably won't have the noise floor/ripple current as low as 1uV...

I got so many questions as soon as I mentioned reviewing DX340, so I decided not to wait until I get to my full review (which is still coming) and put together this detailed First Look write-up, focusing on the new design and sound analysis, along with a handful of comparisons and DAC/amp pair-ups all within iBasso family. I hope you enjoy the read.

Thank you for your early thoughts and comparisons!

I find that I can hike with the DX340 without issue, and I mean in the mountains around where I live, not on smooth nice trails. The weight is no big deal but the sound is. Also, I hear more with the 340 than any other dap. And I don't listen for the details, they are just there, very natural but unhidden and part of the musical flow. A timbre like I have not heard and just plain musical fun.

Exactly what I meant in my sound description comment of DX340 having an addictive analog sweetness in its tonality ;)

And btw, regarding other comments above, DX340/amp15 is quite resolving, but relative to other DAPs, including DX320 with its stock amp11mk2s specifically, it has a smoother and more musical tonality.

I need to read your impressions. I haven't gone to the link you provided and I enjoy reading what others think about whatever I am listening to or with.

I put mine is a small pouch and use this Fiio remote in my pocket. Mostly for volume adjust and skip a track.

Love the 340 SQ, music is great and I've also watched a few films on mine too, the screen pops and is fantastic but the audio on films is also superb, sub bass very present and imaging and realism of effects and specific sounds and staging is better than anything I've heard before. I know it's intended primarily to play music but give a good quality movie file a try too.
