DX240 DAP. DAC ES9038PRO - NEW: AMP8MK2S .****** NEW Firmware! 2.01 *******

I remember the marketing for DX240 saying the Excellent ESS9038PRO chip = 4 ES9028Pro. seems to me the same applies still, 2x ESS 9038PRO (inside DX240) = 8 x CS43198 since the CS is an older design. Anyway Far more important than the chip is the analog output stage to me after modding AMP8 MKII.
Almost, we have a single es9038pro in our dx240s. Actually really happy about going single chip instead of two, rather use single chip and give all the attention research and development that would have gone into making two of them play nice together into making it's analog output and PSU stages more attention.
The extra 3db performance is to much hassle in my humble opinion.
But agreed see it also the same way es9038pro ≈4 es 9028pro ≈ 8 CS43198. From what have heard so far find this statement accurate.

A single 9038pro or ESS9029pro are 8ch. A single CS43198 is 2ch so some of this will have to do with whether they are counting channels or number of chips used. That said, 4 convertors per channel is more than enough so the rest will be voicing etc. Trade offs are that multiple chips have more current available per convertor to work with but the downside is that the individual convertors should be more similar in characteristic if they came off the same wafer like the ESS units.

Exactly why am such a fan of ess sabre pro chips. The also feature built in 4 to 1 summing for channels. By doing this not only is the output impedance greatly reduced, all the non linearities in the individual DAC channels also get summed out, results are extraordinary imo.
Ps
That es9038pro Vs es9028pro comparison comes from ess and ibasso slides. According to ess because of the digital stage upgrades in the es9038 pro single chip performance is about the same as 4 es9028pro chips. As for analog stage should be same if not greater gains there than with digital stage.
The es9028pro was a upgrade(fix) to es9018s and it was also made to be fully plug and play upgrade with full pun comparability. The es9038pro is the actual next gen flagship with reworked digital and analog stages as well as new hyperstream modulator gen.

Yup, the 9028pro still had an ESS sig in some configs. That left the room in the 9038pro. I used to prefer r2r dacs with outboard receivers and filtering but the the 9038 has really bridged that gap for me at a fraction of the cost. Done well, these can have that sort of PRaT and solidity at a fraction of that cost and complexity. I haven't found other D-S dacs sound as tangible as these can though I've like CS in the past.. I did hear a DS300 and preferred my DX240 but that's very limited.

Thx for the correction. Great point

Bonjour à tous.
je suis nouveau avec le DX 240 depuis 3 semaines et je voudrais savoir si vous avez testé le casque ibasso SR2 avec le DX 240 ( amp 1MK3 ) merci beaucoup
If you like sound with flatter bass enjoy. I personally use IEMs like thaiAudio Monarch and MEST. The only headphone I have is the Sony MDR-1AM2 which pairs nicely with the DX240 with very good detail retrieval and deep bass.

please tell me why the equalizer works so badly on Mango pleer? It's just impossible to use it, turn it on and the sound decreases very much? Maybe there are some secrets how to fix it?
It is on purpose so that you don't clip the signal. Activation of EQ decreases volume by 6db so that if you put it to max it would still be 0dbfs and not clip.
Basic protection of unit and headphones.
Just raise the volume level.

This is not normal, it shouldn't be like this, I listen at 30, and with an equalizer of 35. On Fiio Btr7, it was the same, but with the update it became normal. It is necessary to Ibasso how to let them know so that they fix it.
Again they know and it's intentional, has been like that since dx200.

I still can't get over how good this thing sounds.

Hey, just got the AMP8MK2S and it's great, significantly better than the MK2, at least as far as I can remember. Can anyone tell me how burn-in effects it? I noticed it has more detail and separation than the AMP1MK3 I've been using, but smaller soundstage and less extension.
