DX240 DAP. DAC ES9038PRO - NEW: AMP8MK2S .****** NEW Firmware! 2.01 *******

For those who were curious why only amp1-8 could be converted for use with DX240, and not NuTube amp9, here are a few pictures that worth thousand words

AMP9 on the left and AMP1 MKII from DX240 on the right - most likely won't fit. Thus, amp1 through amp8 only.

Thanks for the pictures

What did the other modules look like without the top cover?

Thanks for the pictures

What did the other modules look like without the top cover?

DX240 on the left with its stock AMP1 mk3 and DX220 on the right with AMP8 open. That is a bottom of pwb view:

And here is the AMP8 with faceplate already attached, facing up. That's how it looks before Vince does his 8EX magic :p

Tbh, while AMP1 mk3 sounds already good straight out of the box, it only comes with 3.5mm and 2.5mm ports while most of my cables 4.4mm terminated. So, I already switched DX240 to AMP8 :) I will go back to DX240 amp1 mk3 to have a proper burn in for review and comparison to DX220 w/amp1 mk2. But AMP8 will be used permanently with DX240.

DX240 is insanely fast, as expected, the same 3D benchsmark scores are DX300 and DX300 MAX, the same as R6 2020, R8, and RS6. It doesn't come with Google Play, but has APKPure installed, so I download Google Play and had it running within minutes. Verified MQA 16x unfolding, streaming apps run fine. SpeedTest results are crazy good, download/upload is faster than my Galaxy phone. Design is very slick, remind me a lot of DX160, just thicker with a curved back. Transparent silicone case is great, and I also received optional leather case which I absolutely love!

A few people asked me already, with DX240 out now and being compact and super fast, why even bother with DX300? Well, if you want a bigger display, that is one thing. Another one, DX240 amp card has limited room, the reason why NuTube won't fit, while DX300 has 2x more pwb room for future expansions. So, you have a choice :)

Oh gdi - so basically they made all the improvements the 220 needed. I guess I’ll probably have to upgrade now. 😂 Thanks for the photos of the amp8, that was my biggest concern.

If you own dx200 or dx220 and invested in any of amp1-amp8, AND you found dx300 to be too big for you, dx240 is the next logical step. It has snapdragon 660 and android 9, the digital guts of dx300/max, and still backward compatible with amp1-8 when you take those amp boards out of the case and attach optional faceplate to convert for use with dx240. Would have been great to have 4.4mm bal with new amp1 mk3, but there is no room for it, so I guess they had to make a compromise with 2.5mm bal. But like I said, if you have other amp1-amp8, just get a faceplate for amp8 and you are set!

Yeah I have amp8ex which I absolutely love and is all I need as I have 4.4 cables for all my headphones. I got the 220 originally for the dual 9028Pro but 9038Pro has been my preferred desktop dac chip. So really the 240 ticks all the right boxes for me. I don’t need a big screen nor storage space. Just qobuz/uapp and hopefully a more stable wifi connection than the 220. My 220, almost two years old, still works great, looks brand new, has an upgraded battery and a near mint amp1mk2 that will be a great value buy for someone when I sell it.

The connector for the DX240 and dx300 look similar. Will the amp11/12 actually fit into the slot of the dx240?

Maybe ibasso could release an extended faceplate with a housing if that's the case.

Connector does look similar, but alignment is not exactly the same and pinout could be different. But even if it would be aligned and with a compatible pinout, why would you want to go through all this hassle to make DX240 longer and bulkier and not being able to fit in the case? :D

I'm sure a lot of people will be thrilled to have more amp options. I know I would :D

Sure, why not, let's just ask them for an extended amp card with a dual NuTube design :p

Since I only have a dx160, why would the dx240 + amp8, be a better buy than the dx300?

BD430381-B2BE-45C4-99A3-A3D99AD941D6.jpeg

Getting a steady approx ten hours with each use.

Got over 100 hours on the DX240 and will soon start loading up the amp modules spare cards to try out some comparisons

Amp1mk1/amp1mk2/amp1/mk3

Then amp1mk3 versus amp8

(Versus DX300 probably later)

Bass has settled and tightened up, treble also. Business as dap usual
